  Had the absolute privilege to work with Northern Light's Construction/Stephen. After getting quotes from several contractors in the Grand Rapids area not only was NLC more cost effective compared to the market but, was promised to be completed before a majority of them. In 3 months NLC did a complete remodel of our home. Stephens professionalism and, attention to details were flawless which resulted in great finished product that we are extremely happy with and, proud to call home. It was a pleasure to sit with Todd and gain the understanding of the home build process. He's been building homes for a long time and came highly recommended from a friend in common. Todd and his crew are very professional as well as easy to talk with. Our home build started in the winter months, through the holidays, inclement weather, and spring break. And through that, things went smooth and completion was on time. Todd manages his crew, sub-contractors and the process very systematically. He was always reachable and communicated everything along the way. We are very proud of our new home and the work that Mickelson Construction did for us.   Steve with A Thru Z Plumbing is honest and knowledgable. He installed a water softener and iron filter at our home that has made a world of difference in the quality of our well water. Our water previously had a stinky, rotten egg smell. He was very helpful and installed everything a few days before we hosted a large family celebration.   Jeff is amazing. He has done interior painting for us in the past and we've been totally happy with the quality of his work as well as his professionalism -- including punctuality, responsiveness, and quality of people he hires to work with him. We had a ratty brick patio installed by previous homeowners that was due for an upgrade and heard that Jeff had started doing building as well, so we were thrilled to be able to hire someone we trust.This deck is the DeckMajal!! We had neighbors standing at the fence to watch them put it in. $14,000 sounds like a lot for a deck, but we wanted the best and we got it. Jeff and his crew dug down and removed tons of dirt in order to pour concrete supports and then build a mega-frame. This deck will withstand ANYTHING we put on it. The deck itself is a thing of beauty: beautifully edged, painstakingly stained (2 days of on-the-knees, by-hand work) and fastidiously finished. What I love about Jeff is that he is pickier than I am. The small things bug him MORE than they bug me so I never have to say anything. While here, I asked Jeff and crew if they would be willing to finish off a half-done tree house in tree at deck-side. Of course. Whipped that out in a day. Looks great, much safer than if we had finished it ourselves (like I said, Jeff thinks of everything) and kids love it.Jeff isn't cheap. His work isn't either. You absolutely get what you pay for.   Larry consulted with us several times in the design and estimating phase, gave us great ideas, and was very responsive at solving every issue we brought up. For example, our neighbor's house had its basement wall buckle inward due to the heavy clay soil and our hillside location putting higher than normal hydrostatic pressure on the wall. Larry designed our project with a thicker concrete wall and a mid-wall pier for extra structural strength, without adding big money to the bill. Another example: our kitchen would now be darker without an outside window and sliding patio doors, so Larry suggested a light tube to bring sunlight into the kitchen/dining area, now an and quot;interior roomand quot;, and we had him add a 24and quot;x36and quot; skylight in the addition to keep the whole place bright with daylight. All permits and inspections were included, all excavation and contracting, all project management, and even a built-in gas fireplace in the family/entertainment room were included. We have thoroughly enjoyed living in our bigger house for five years. A year after the project was complete, the skylight in the addition leaked small rivulets during a heavy storm. Larry came out the following day and inspected the problem, then consulted the manufacturer, diagnosed the problem, and fixed it. No arguments, just good service and doing the right thing. Since that experience, we have hired Pillar again several times, for projects like interior painting, remodeling our master bath and bedroom after a plumbing failure did extensive damage, and smaller and quot;handymanand quot; type things. We have referred him to friends who have had both big and small jobs, and he has won praise from them as well. Very stand up folks to do business with. Very trustworthyshow more

  We contacted 7 or 8 different builders to obtain quotes. Ben Bosworth, owner of Bosworth Builders, seemed the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic. For those reasons, we selected him to build our screened-in porch. When the job was completed, I KNEW we'd made the right decision. Ben and his crew showed up on time, every time. At the end of each work day, everything was cleaned up and put away, as promised. The work and workmanship was top-quality throughout. Ben kept us completely informed on the project status, graciously accommodated the few changes we requested during the course of the project, and answered every question we had to make sure we clearly understood. No detail was too small. He followed through on promises that even WE had forgotten about. I believe a good builder is characterized by: (1) the quality of his work, (2) fair price, and (3) honesty...or more specifically, doing everything he says he's going to do, no excuses.
