I have been consistently impressed with the Lead Architect's creativity in designing spaces of any size so that they are most functional and attractive. They take the time to understand the client's needs and ensure that the designs exceed expectations. The Studio 76 team continues to improve upon the designs even after I am satisfied, until the final product is perfect. Tips: 1. Do your research with all the online resources. 2. Go with a reasonably clear idea of what you want built. 3. Use the Architect and Design team's expertise and creativity and you will be amazed by what they come up with. 4. Share your wants and needs upfront so that it can be built into the plans

Premier HD Construction LLC
Rick and Jim at Premier are talented professionals. They were thoughtful and meticulous in their work and offered insightful advice as well as creative solutions to unforeseen problems. While they took a little longer than estimated, the end result was worth it. I would highly recommend them.

Jenkins Restorations was on the recommended list of my insurance company. It was the best decision I made to select them as my project manager for my house. And I was probably one of his most demanding clients they ever had to work with—sending hundreds, literally, of emails. Fortunately for me, they could deal with my emails and calls sent at the most unexpected times of the day. I was absolutely traumatized by my fire and loss of my family home and contents. The Jenkins team had extremely qualified and reliable sub-contractors who restored my house literally from the ashes in the contractual 10 months. I kept a daily photo journal of the reconstruction process of my house. It is now a slide show in iPhoto with haunting choral music playing throughout. I look at this periodically to remind me to be grateful for his professionalism and expertise in rebuilding my home. I can easily review the distinctive phases, from the black-grey period, transitioning to the white ghost-like stage of smoke/odor elimination, then to the ductwork, and rough-in of wiring and plumbing. That was followed by the “quiet” stage where insulation on both the exterior and interior walls magically masked the sounds of the outside world. Then came the sheet-rocking and “mud” stage. And the house started to have real rooms Jenkins Restorations directed me to a national plumbing contractor, where a 3-women team, whom I called my “dream team”, carefully held my hand for each one of the myriad of decisions I had to make over the 8 months of selection and bidding, with the last 2 months being the time period where the fruits of all my decisions were delivered to the house. Jenkins Restorations was constantly aware of my concern to stay as close to budget as possible, with a few overages for capital improvements that I wanted to have in my house—upgraded kitchen and bathroom cabinets, granite selections, interior doors, and interior wall formaldehyde–free sound/insulation batts, and special order shower doors. Furthermore, the Jenkins team made architectural recommendations for my foyer area, updating the space by eliminating a dark hallway, where I first witnessed the fire at the electrical service panel, and thereby, helping to wipe away a horrible memory of August 11, 2012 fire. Other suggestions like a knee wall in the master bath were also critical to the improved appearance of my newly reconstructed home. They also suggested extra-wide simple floor molding for the main living areas, and this was a welcome addition to the simple mid-century modern architecture of this Carderock Valley View model. All their suggestions, especially the foyer alterations, improved the feng shui of my home. And last but not least, the Jenkins team met with me often for updates, changes, and room specifications. With a blue magic marker, they would detail what needed to be done. In fact, they met with me at extraordinarily early hours in the morning, so that I could make it to work on time. They fought beltway traffic in order to arrive promptly at the house before me, and had routinely gone into the house for a pre-inspection. I was always amazed to see the black Jenkins truck parked in front of the house before I arrived from my rental house only 500 feet away! During all the critical phases of this 10 month reconstruction, a family friend, who was staying with me and had single-handily built his own house in Colorado, was my resident construction quality control consultant. Many evenings the two of us would visit the house, with flashlights, to review what was installed. He was so impressed with what he had found, studs above windows or doors marked with blue marker for additional support or rework, insulation properly installed, and vapor barriers in place. He remarked on construction details that I did not notice, and was very impressed with the workmanship. The most impressive stage was the period between April 1 and June 1. That is when my house really came together. The Jenkins team timed and orchestrated the painting, inside and out, door installations, tile work in the kitchen and three bathrooms, and wood floors and the arrival of appliances. The Jenkins door and molding contractor worked extraordinary hours over Easter time to get the doors installed, along with artfully constructed book shelves in two rooms. Presently, I am in the 3-year warranty period with Jenkins and my insurance company. There are still some punch list items, and they are being addressed in a timely manner. I am confident that Jenkins will make sure that as house issues arise, they will be examined and repaired. I could go on for many more pages about Jenkins Restorations and all the quality work done on my new “old” house built in 1965. This company has given me a very distinctive home. Every day I wake up filled with gratitude for this demonstrated competency and craftsmanship. Team Jenkins was and still is a pleasure to work with.

RANDALL MARS ARCHITECTS
I started out thinking that I would never be able to find an architect to design a modern home in the Northern Virginia area; but I was wrong. We interviewed three firms before selecting Randall Mars and it was an easy decision because he instantly got what we were trying to do. Randall took our ideas and made them better. It is difficult to discuss every detail for such a large project in one review. Our project involved a new entry, new staircase, adding decks, gutting and remodeling the kitchen and all baths, etc. If you are looking for an architect to design your modern project ? you really need to talk to Randall Mars.

Graves Design & Remodeling Inc
It was terrific. Doug took a really dumpy looking kitchen and completely transformed it into a beautiful modern space. It is a complete transformation. Doug provided us with a computer generated design before he started the work along with a written estimate. His crew was terrific. They took Doug's vision and made it reality. Doug was on site frequently to make sure everything was going right. As is typical with an older place there were electrical and plumbing issues that came up. When the issues were realized Doug worked with us and negotiated a fair price and handled it well. He was great to work with and we are delighted with our new kitchen.

Eko Smart Solutions
Within 3 months the entire attic was full of mold. Eko assessed the problem but never came back to resolve it AND did not honor the warranty. Currently in legal lawsuit. Had to remove all the insulation and remediate the damages.

Graves Design & Remodeling Inc
Everything on this project went great. Doug's crew was fantastic. Their work was excellent. From the tile designer to the finish carpenters everyone did a great job. Doug was always there to make sure everything was being done to his standards. I must impress on anyone reading this review the massive scope of this job and engineering required to meld the old and new parts of the house together seamlessly. On the few occasions where something was done that was not what we wanted or how he wanted it done, he had no problems redoing the work himself if needed. In this kind of job, you expect issues to crop up. Doug handled any problems with great communication and was upfront about any extra costs the problem may incur. He didn't just cover up issues he didn't want to deal with. The finish is impeccable. From the custom cabinetry and tile work to the innovated engineering solutions required for certain aspects of the addition, Doug and his team were excellent in all phases of the work. Doug listens to the homeowner and their wants and achieves their vision without compromising on his desire to deliver to well built, beautiful project. I would, without hesitation, hire Graves remodeling for our next project, even though there is very little left for them to do that they did not take care during the project.

WILLIAM FEENEY ARCHITECT
The Feeney team is a well-oiled machine, offering creative ideas, timely drawings, and open communications. They are professional, detail-oriented, and fresh. I couldn't have asked for a better building experience.

Potomac Home Design LLC
Overall, the project went very smoothly with only minor, expected issues that were beyond Scott's control. He obtained all the necessary building permits and even helped figure out a major complication involving a tree root that had upended the foundation of the house. Scott listened to my ideas and executed the project according to my wishes. I purchased the major appliances myself and he installed them. The transformation was amazing and my family and friends could not believe how great the space looked. Several contractors actually refused to work on such a challenging project involving a structure from 1870. Scott embraced the challenges and suggested many innovations I had not thought of.

Moss Building & Design
My wife and I were very happy with our experience with Moss. From start to finish, they were extremely professional, knowledgeable and timely. All of the people we worked with exceeded our expectations. Our design consultant (Kristin) took the time to learn about what kind of building products we tend to like (we lean towards Euro-modern) and found things within our budget that we loved and worked for what we were trying to achieve. Also, our Project Manager (Bob Keene) did a fabulous job; he was always prompt, did exactly what he said he would do, made sure the workman did what they were supposed to do, and was just so easy to work with. He even suggested things that worked better that sometimes saved us money. In short, our experience with Moss was excellent and I would recommend them without hesitation. We would definitely use them again.

WILLIAM FEENEY ARCHITECT
We interviewed several architects and selected Bill Feeney because we liked some of his earlier bathroom projects. Bill listened carefully to what we had in mind and came rapidly with interesting preliminary proposals and a budget. The combination of the design, material and equipment selected have resulted in functional, neat and modern looking bathrooms and powder room. The general contractor, tile supplier, cabinet maker and countertop supplier selected were all used to work with Bill and had a close and constructive work relation with him. Because Bill's office is located only a few blocks from our house, he could visit the construction site whenever necessary. He and his team were highly responsive to our requests; their coordination effort was indeed commendable. The project was implemented within budget. It however suffered some delays because of an underestimate of the quantity of tiles needed for one bathroom and the inadequate fabrication of special tiles for the powder room (Bill obtained a refund from the tile supplier to compensate for the inconvenience caused by the construction delay). We spent about 15% of the total project cost for architect services. Altogether we had a very positive experience and would not hesitate recommending Bill Feeney for similar remodeling projects.

Act-Architectural Construction Technologies
We have been extremely happy with the work of ACT. The proof is in the outcome: our home is absolutely stunning, the work ACT performed is of the highest quality, and we will continue to use ACT for any and all renovation projects. We learned about ACT from our architect, who is one of the most-respected modern architects in this region and who has worked with ACT on numerous projects. We knew our architect has exacting standards, and so we went with ACT. We were not disappointed. Starting with the bidding process, Chris was honest, straight-forward and reasonable. Throughout the project, ACT was prompt, reliable, responsive, and creative in solving the various, unforeseen problems that inevitably arise in a project of this size. Any time a problem arose, or we were not satisfied with any aspect of the project, Chris was absolutely responsive to our concerns and always came up with a better and reasonable resolution. After living through a project of this breadth and magnitude, we have come to realize that ACT's flexibility, creativity and reasonableness in response to unforeseen complications is perhaps one of the most important qualities in an excellent contractor. That, of course, along with the high quality and beauty of the work. We think the end result speaks for itself. If we take on another major renovation, we can't imagine hiring anyone else.

Ballard & Mensua Architecture
Seth is both talented and a total professional. He met all our goals and helped us create a much needed addition on our home. We are not the only ones pleased with it -- Our neighbors comment often on how great it looks, and repeatedly remark how well it fits with the home. We have a 1905 Queen Anne style home that has had many renovations over time, some obviously done with great care. Thanks to Seth, we were able to keep within the style and tradition of this home, while meeting our needs for accessibility and more living space. One of Seth's strengths is that he is a great listener. By listening to us, and watching how we lived in the current space, he was able to craft a wonderful plan to meet our needs. He understood and respected our budget as he translated our visions and needs into construction plans. He then worked with us to finish the home with perfect detail. He was our advocate-- working with us and our general contractor, and other building professionals. There are several items that we would still regret if Seth had not stepped in and told us, "Yes, you are correct. That needs to be fixed." He took over, and the issues were quickly resolved. I can not imagine working on our home and investing like we have (and will again) without such a total professional. He helped us find this home, develop a long term master plan and get the critical phase 1 done - making our home more comfortable for our family. Our enlarged family room with a coffered ceiling is amazing, and our master bedroom, bath and walk-in closet are beautiful and "fit" with the character of our home. To say he is Five Stars is an understatement, he is simply the best and great to work with. There is no question that Seth will be our architect of choice for the next phase of our renovation and into the future.

Sycamore Design Build Inc
Matt Webb is easy to work with, listens and communicates well, always has constructive and creative ideas, and is very sensitive and responsive to the owners preferences. Matt Webb and crew always did excellent quality work. When he subcontracted areas of work he would shop for best price from known subcontractors he had worked with previously. He always gave the owner options of doing more and making timely changes. He always was very conscious of energy savings and used materials and insulation which allowed a very efficient energy use house with many convenient features like a hot water circulation system which allows hot water to be readily available around the entire house. After living in the house for 2 months the energy used was about 20 % less than the old house used at the same time of year. This was a reduction of about 60% energy use since the old house was half the size of the new house.

ROBERT R HOLLENDONNER
We called Mr. Hollendonner to come up with some unique solutions for the exterior of our house, to make it more inviting. He suggested adding several aspects to our home, made several schematic drawings, made all the necessary drawings to get bids, and has continued to work with us through the construction phase. His drawings always get compliments from the contractors bidding on the contracts for their completeness. He was always timely and helpful.
- Benedetta K.
This is a great idea to use if your budget is limited and you have big ideas. We were able to describe to architects our current Row Home condition and what we wanted changed (submitted pictures, floor plans, and narrative on what we were looking for). We posted our job for a month, which resulted in at least 15 different architects expressing an interest and had an actual total of 11 submissions by deadline. As you would guess, it was easy to identify those who put in more thought and work than others when it came to the drawings and actually reflecting what we asked for. For the price we paid, we were able to identify a first rate architect, which we may have never found. We hope to do some follow-up work with the firm we ranked as number 1 as the plans provided were not detailed enough for permits and contracting work. However, they are already familiar with the project and their office just so happens to be close by to our home. Things really worked out well and I would not hesitate to use this vehicle again.

Dietz Development LLC
The investment company I run has hired Chris Dietz before. But never again. Read on and you can decide if you should... Details on current renovation with him: He's more than 7 months into a job that, from experience, should take about 3 months. He sited 'health issues' on the delay and then 'went dark'. He hasn't returned calls with a phone call in MONTHS. No new POC given for me to contact. Wait, it gets 'better'... Combo on the lockbox for my company to access the house has been changed! I've been asking for the new combo for weeks. He still hasn't supplied it. Would you hire a person that operates this way?
