There are deck restoration products and oil-based wood stains that can help bring back some of the color and shine to your faded Trex decking. However, if your boards are suffering from serious fading due to UV rays or chemical cleaning products, don’t expect miracles. Also, these products are only suitable for use on the older Trex boards, not the capped, second-generation Trex products. 

We recommend hanging a porch swing at least 2.5 to 3 feet from the wall and about 17 inches above the ground to avoid damaging your home. You want enough clearance behind it and on each side of the porch swing to move around safely and avoid the chains rubbing against it.

If your contractor isn't sourcing your new porch columns for you, you can find them at your local home improvement store or hardware store. You can also order them online for delivery. If you want a unique look or want to save some money, you can also source porch columns from auctions and restore them before having them installed.

PVC decking can get slippery when wet because it’s made from plastic. However, composite and wood decking can also be slippery when wet. It’s best to wear shoes with grippy soles when walking on a wet deck, no matter the material, and to be extra cautious not to slip and fall down.

When it comes to rotten deck wood, there really is no fixing it in the traditional sense—it needs to be removed and replaced.
