The lifespan of a semi-aboveground pool depends on the lining, but they last between seven and 15 years on average. This is right in line with what you can expect from a standard aboveground pool. In comparison, an in-ground pool can last up to 75 years with a well-maintained concrete liner.

Because frogs require fresh water for survival, they can die from repeated exposure to swimming pool chemicals. Chlorine dehydrates frogs, which can lead to their deaths. To ensure frogs don’t hang out in your pool for long periods, safely remove them once you spot them in your pool and install a frog log so they can easily hop out on their own.

In most cases, late May or early June are the most popular times to open a pool, depending on your location. It’s a good idea to open your pool when the outdoor temperature sits consistently above 65 to 70 degrees (F). At this point, algae will begin to flourish in your water, so opening the pool and adding the proper chemicals will avoid excessive pool algae growth.

You should add chlorine within 48 hours of filling your pool with water. In just 24 hours, bacteria and algae will begin to grow and contaminate your water. After that point, you’ll need to shock the water with high levels of chlorine, and you’ll likely need to do additional vacuuming to get the pool clean. If the depth changes from one end of your pool to the other, take the average by finding the depth at the deepest and most shallow points and dividing that number by two.
