"Robby, Logan and Mason at Basement Authority did a wonderful and professional job for us. They were on time, answered all of our questions and made sure that we were informed and comfortable with all the steps taken during our project (crawl space encapsulation). I would highly recommend them."

"They are great to work with. Communication was superior. They stand by their work. A few years ago I had waterproofing done in my basement and this time they spray foamed the cavities of the basement too. Both times they did awesome work and cleaned up too! I highly recommend this company!"

"Alford had waterproofed my basement 2 years ago & I've been very pleased with that project. This time, a mouse had gotten in thru an open garage door when weather started getting cold, and had found a hole in a cinder block wall and had babies! I had already trapped and killed 5 before calling Alford. The rep was very polite, professional, knowledgeable, etc. He quoted me a price which was very reasonable but I decided to wait & see...it's been 6 days since last one killed & I still have traps set throughout the house but if I have any further issues, I would not hesitate to call Alford!"

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Egress windows or doors are required in finished basements to meet safety and building codes. If your basement is unfinished and used as a storage space, egress windows are not required, but anything considered a habitable space must have an additional point of egress in addition to the stairs.

In most climates, contractors recommend closing your crawl space vents in winter. Keeping them shut protects your crawl space from freezing temperatures, pests, and cool breezes that can lead to chilly floors in your home. However, it's often best to speak with a local crawl space team about your specific design and its relationship to the winter season.

Yes, the air from a damp basement can travel up into your living area through a process called the stack effect, so moisture, mold spores, and other debris in your basement air can all decrease your indoor air quality on your main floors. Additionally, damp basements can promote the rotting of building materials, which can damage flooring, insulation, and framing on your first floor in addition to materials in the basement.

Brick is designed to absorb moisture, but it is also designed to let it evaporate as well. So in general, the goal shouldn’t necessarily be keeping moisture out but making sure it has the room to breathe. If you have excess moisture getting through your brick wall, it’s more likely that you have a crack or other issue at play that a typical sealant won’t fix. So, instead of investing in sealant, try repairing your brick wall instead.

Installing storm windows can protect your home’s interior from heavy storms. Most storm windows are made with enamel-coated aluminum with screens and sliding glass panels. They also make your house more energy-efficient. The average storm window cost is $12,000, ranging between $4,250 and $19,850, depending on mounting, window types, glass types, and frame materials.
