"I recently had the pleasure of working with Upgrade Remodeling for a major bathroom renovation, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, their team demonstrated professionalism, expertise, and a commitment to excellence. Ryan, our sales representative, impressed us with his logical and convincing sales pitch. He saved us valuable time by eliminating the need for multiple vendor meetings. His thorough understanding of our needs and preferences made the decision easy. The installation process was seamless. Alex and his team did an outstanding job removing our old bathtub and installing a beautiful walk-in shower. Their attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the project. They were also incredibly respectful of our home, ensuring that the work area remained clean and unaffected. The finishing touches on our new shower were nothing short of perfection. "After a super sales job by Dana on Oct 5, 2020, we expected the job to be started in approx 8 weeks (it was on Nov 23, 2020) and that the crew would stick with it until complete. The crew was very good and polite. They kept to themselves upstairs in the master bath (due to COVID and they wore masks) and worked hard to demo our old bath and prepare for the new install. The Kohler shower with a rolling glass door was completed without issues. We only received one of the 2 vanities we had ordered and received the wrong light fixtures for above the vanities. They did install the waterproof LV floor, which is very nice and what we selected. We waited for the second vanity (decided to go with the style of the first one installed, for expediency sake) and the correct light fixtures to arrive and then get the crew back here to Radford, VA. The foreman Memphis did make several local trips to get the wall paint, the ceiling vent/light, and the towel/robe hooks we would order originally but were not included in materials brought. Four weeks from start to (not quite) finish. The bathroom looked great and we were happy and paid the balance of the cost of the bathroom upon completion, on Dec. 18, 2020. Approx 2 months later we had a leak in the under-vanity plumbing which damaged our living room ceiling. Evidently, the nuts under the vanity were not installed tightly enough and it dripped until the under sink slide-out drawer was full and leaked out of the back of the vanity down the wall to stain the living room ceiling. We shut off the water source to the vanity until the crew came again to inspect and by then I had discovered a fine crack in the back corner of my vanity, which had to have either arrived that way or happened during install. That has to be replaced. Memphis looked at the leak and asked if we had any Primer. We did, and he painted the spots (L-shaped discoloration). The stains are still there as the primer did not cover the stain Waiting on the new vanity AND the entire living room ceiling to be repainted. Jim Plecker came on April 1 to view the damage and see the crack in the vanity top. He said that the new vanity would be ordered and he would have the crew back to install the same and repaint the ceiling. It is May 9 today and I have not heard back. I am waiting and will add an addendum to this review when the job is truly Finished."

"It went great, from the initial conversation with Kelvin to the free quote from Gilmer. Both Kelvin and Gilmer were very professional, courteous, and nice. Gilmer performed the garage door and framing replacement, he was very organized, clean, respectful, knew what he was doing, and very efficient. They were also able to accommodate a very quick timeline for getting hired and perform the work without sacrificing quality service, this was appreciated."

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

The most common type of tub is the alcove; most bathtubs are shower and tub combinations. Many suburban homes feature these as the default option because they allow the flexibility for users to take a bath or a shower—a notable benefit for those with pets and young kids.

While tubs are fairly sturdy, you may notice cracks or holes. This kind of damage can happen from someone accidentally dropping something heavy into the tub. You might also see damage if you drop something heavy into the tub over and over again (like your extra large bottle of body wash). While you might only notice a small dent at first, this can later turn into a crack or a hole.

Also, certain cleaners that are harmful to your tub can cause damage. And if you have a fiberglass tub, you might see cracks if it was not installed properly with the right support.

Installing a clawfoot tub with a minimum of 6 inches of clearance from surrounding walls allows ample room for the faucet and pipework, makes cleaning easier, and reduces the chance of moisture being trapped between the tub and the walls. It might need to be closer if the faucet comes directly out of the wall.

Different bathtub materials have various advantages and disadvantages. Cast iron and copper are considered the most durable materials because they are dense and resistant to damage from scratches or dents. However, cast-iron tubs are heavy, expensive, and may not be suitable for upper floors. Copper offers unique benefits but requires regular chemical treatment to prevent a patina from forming, making cast iron a less maintenance-intensive option. Porcelain is a good second choice for durability. For those on a budget, acrylic is a popular option, though it is less durable.

The impact of a walk-in tub on home value depends on various factors, including market demand, demographic preferences, and overall home features. While some buyers may view it as a desirable accessibility feature, others might see it as a niche amenity, potentially limiting the pool of interested buyers. However, it could add value if the walk-in tub meets specific needs or enhances the property's appeal to a target demographic. Ultimately, its effect on home value varies case by case, with factors like installation quality, design, and neighborhood trends playing roles in determining its impact.
