If push comes to shove, and you need to manually open your garage door, then you should be able to do so. To manually open your garage door, first, make sure that the door is in the down position. The smallest size a standard 2-car garage can be is 20 feet by 20 feet, so at these dimensions, you could reasonably expect to fit two cars inside. However, it’s going to be a tight fit, especially if you have larger SUVs or pickup trucks. For smaller cars, 20 x 20 should be plenty for parking and some space to maneuver around the cars. A larger garage size would be better to ensure you have room to open the doors and transport groceries or other items around the cars.

You have a few options of paint for garage doors. Acrylic paint offers excellent UV- and weatherproof resistance, easily adheres to surfaces, and dries quickly. However, it has limited color options available and requires multiple coats. Oil-based paints last long, are easy to apply, and may only need one coat, but dry slowly and emit more VOCs. Latex offers superior color reflection, available in a wide range of colors, and it’s highly forgiving. However, latex can crack and peel over time and may need a primer for even coverage.

Sliding garage doors aren’t popular because when they can be inconvenient—they require you to leave your car—if they’re manual. But, if they’re automatic, they’re much more expensive than a conventional tilting door. Some find the sliding door less aesthetically pleasing than a tilting or barn door.
