A ceiling light will usually have two or three wires: black, white, and sometimes green. Black wires are positive, or hot, while white wires are negative, or neutral. The green wire is the grounding wire. 

When you’re wiring the light, connect black to black, white to white, and green to the grounding screw.

Check the matching breaker in your panel, since the number is printed on the switch. You can also tell them apart by sight. A 15-amp outlet has two straight vertical slots, while a 20-amp outlet has one vertical slot and one sideways T-slot.

There are several reasons why an electrical outlet would suddenly stop working, including:
