"Getting a walk in tub is expensive no matter who you use. My experience thus far is with installation only and I must say my install went great. It has been over a month and no issues with my tub so I cannot comment on repair process with American Standard."

"Bath Fitters end product was fine...but had to comeback for a full second day to redo shower walls not installed quite right. No extra charge but took a day out of my life. I am pleased with the final result"

"I hired them through Angi. Had trouble finding company on my own. They pulled carpet and put down new floor in two rooms. Had to wait couple of weeks- then they created a large tile surrounded shower. Jason brought samples of materials and made it super easy to plan. In only two weeks I had a shower in half of my storage room. Love it!! They were so easy to work with! And for less than I expected, I got my renovations completed!!"

"Mine was relatively small job . Added a 4' x 11' concrete to existing patio. HOWEVER, what's important to note is the expertise and quality of this contractor. Very easy to work with, he was receptive of minor changes that wee needed. I felt so confident in his skills that I hired him for two other small job while he was here. I highly recommend Mike for most any job."

"The project lead and workers were profesional and polite. Lack of communication at times left me feeling confused and frustrated as I waited on workers to arrive every now and then. The salesman pitched me a 2 to 5 day time to install. It ended up taking two weeks as the wrong parts came in and some were missing. Some things were leaking but they came out and fixed it after calling them. Shower up a day earlier, removed our tub, then asked where the building material was. Which hadnâ t been delivered to us yet. Didnâ t show up the next day, but the building material did at 7am. No forewarning. When they started working on the project they did quality work with what they had, but found out as they installed things that the company sent us the wrong shower head and no shelves for our shower storage. Had to wait for those parts to arrive. They arrived and were installed, but then they were leaking behind the wall, into the basement, and from the shower head. Workers came out and fixed it later, but it was a longer job than expected. While they were polite people, I did not feel I got the value and quality promised by the salesman. My expectations were high based on his promises and it ended up taking much longer than anticipated and they kept having to come back and fix things. Felt overpriced for the hassle."

Tub Shower Conversion questions, answered by experts

Yes, most bathrooms can be converted into a wet room, but the process often involves extensive renovations. Key requirements include having proper plumbing and the ability to slope the floor slightly for drainage. The conversion process typically requires removing the existing floors to install drainage, replacing drywall with waterproofed cement backer board, waterproofing the walls, and installing new fixtures to create an open, curbless shower space. A skilled home renovation professional can evaluate your bathroom to determine if it's a suitable candidate. It's also worth considering resale value; if you only have one bathroom, converting it to a wet room might not be ideal as many homebuyers prefer to have at least one bathtub.

Most of the time, Medicare will not pay for a roll-in shower because it isn’t considered medically necessary. However, a doctor’s recommendation and other medical evidence may qualify you for reimbursement. If you need a roll-in shower for medical reasons, you will likely need to pay up front for installation and then apply for reimbursement.

Shower mixing valves are usually located behind the shower handles. Accessing the mixing valve is difficult for a DIYer, so it’s best to call a pro if you think this could be the issue. A plumbing repair expert has the right tools and knowledge to easily access the valve, diagnose the issue, and recommend repairs if needed.

Yes, it would be best if you waterproofed your shower walls before tiling. The cement backing board behind the tile is not waterproof; it’s only water-resistant. On top of your tile backing board, be sure to use a waterproof shower membrane before you start installing your shower tiles.

Depending on the layout of your bathroom, you may be able to replace a shower valve without removing the tile. The existing hole needs to be large enough to remove your old valve and fit your new valve. If the hole is too small, you’ll need to cut into the wall and remove some of the tile.
