"The team at Current Electric was very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. Work was performed well. Communication and punctuality were top notch. My only minor complaint is they are on the pricier side of electrical contractors. But with most work you get what you pay for."

Customers say: Quality work

"Jim & his team did a great job fixing the electrical system in my new house. The house had an ancient relay system from the 50s. Excel did all of the work on time & in budget. Because the system was so old there were random issues that popped up later. Jim & his team came back right away every time I called. I highly recommend Excel Electric."

"I called because my outdoor outlet stopped working. When the technician came, his obvious first move was to check whether the safety switch (a little button next to the outlet) had been triggered. It had, and there was nothing to be done besides reset it. When I messaged the person who was in charge that day that I wished I had known, he said there were other things it could have been. But on Christmas Eve, in the spirit, he might have suggested an old lady try first just pushing the button herself. He gave me a discount when I said I wished I had known."

"This is a truly great company. They provide great customer service and spend time explaining the details and answering questions. My husband obsessed about every single detail and could not deny that it was a no brainer. Our first electric bill since installing the panels was a CREDIT! I was not expecting that. If you have ever considered solar, seriously, just do it. Long term, you can not go wrong."

"Excellent work. They ran electrical wiring in the attic, mounted electric boxes/switches, and installed two ceiling fans/lights. They had the right tools and knew what to do. They did the work for less than original estimate. This was for a job that one other firm (upon seeing the job) turned it down as being too difficult. I highly recommend them."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Homeowners in Waterloo should factor in the area’s frequent summer storms, winter ice, and rural layouts when planning electrical projects. Weather-resistant wiring and surge protection are essential due to power fluctuations. For rural homes, consider wiring for well pumps and outbuildings. Local building codes may differ for overhead versus underground service, so plan upgrades with Waterloo’s climate and property types in mind.

Helpful?

In Waterloo, create a seasonal electrical inspection routine by starting spring with a check of outdoor outlets, extension cords, and GFCI protection after snowmelt. In summer, inspect attic and garage wiring for heat-related wear and test surge protectors before storm season. Fall is ideal for testing heating system wiring and backup power sources. During winter, watch for ice buildup on service lines and check for signs of moisture intrusion.

Helpful?

New homeowners in Waterloo should prioritize a professional inspection of the electrical panel, especially in older homes. Install GFCI outlets in kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor spaces to address moisture concerns common in WI. Upgrade smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to hardwired models. Weatherproof exterior outlets and add dedicated circuits for major appliances to ensure safety and convenience from the start.

Helpful?

In WI, you can address minor electrical issues by turning off power at the breaker and using a voltage tester before replacing outlets or switches. Test and reset GFCI outlets monthly, especially after storms. For light fixtures, ensure they’re rated for damp or humid areas. Always keep hands and tools dry, and use battery-powered lights during outages. For persistent or complex issues, contact a local professional.

Helpful?

In Waterloo, unexpected costs during electrical projects often stem from required permits and inspections, especially in older or historic homes needing wiring upgrades. Weatherproofing materials suited for freeze-thaw cycles, emergency repairs after storms, and extra labor for accessing finished basements or attics can also add to the project. Code compliance updates may be necessary if outdated wiring or panels are discovered during work.
