"Erik Pfarrer was our salesman and he was AWESOME!!!! Explained everything and went above and beyond I even expected him to do. Awesome person. "DJK Environmental did a great job removing asbestos floor tiles and mastic in my basement. All the work was done as promised and everyone I talked to at the company was professional and courteous. Siding underlayment varies based on the type of material, but most siding is installed on top of a vapor barrier, a moisture-resistant house wrap, sheathing made from plywood or oriented strand board (OSB), and a layer of insulation sheeting. Having the correct underlayment is a critical part of properly installing siding and will protect your home from water intrusion, structural damage, and energy loss.

While almost nothing is completely fireproof, metal siding is extremely fire-resistant. It’s non-combustible so while it may eventually melt in extreme temperatures, it won’t actually light on fire itself. This can add a layer of safety to structures that wood or vinyl siding can’t, making it attractive for industrial use. Metal siding can significantly slow down the spread of a fire, giving extinguishers and firefighters a much better chance at saving the structure and containing the blaze. 

Fiber cement shingle siding is made from a blend of common ingredients, including cement, sand, water, and wood or cellulose fibers. The composition of the mixture varies depending on the manufacturer, however, with some makers opting to include special additives to improve longevity and resilience, and some include dyes and pigments to create custom colors that don’t require painting.

You can put new siding over clapboards, but it’s not recommended. Some sidings, like vinyl siding, can go over clapboards with sheathing like a foam layer in between. However, it’s best to remove clapboard siding if you plan on replacing it with new siding. Burying wood clapboards underneath new siding can create risks of rot and mold, or hidden insect damage. It can also create warping issues over time. Removing clapboards allows you to properly install a new sheathing, as well as clean up the exterior wall and look for any signs of damage.

To clean painted aluminum siding, use a mixture of mild detergent and water applied with a soft brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose to remove soap residue. For stubborn stains, cleaning aluminum siding with a power washer on a low-pressure setting can be effective. But avoid using high pressure, which could damage the paint.
