They were on time as they had said they would be. They had tools to do the job instead taking off to the supply store

Handyman for Multiple Small Projects
I hired Brad Kleban and Cutting Edge last December to attach and secure a towel rack, fill in a hole in my bathroom with putty, and then to paint the entire bathroom as well as do a smaller job in the laundry room. The cost was $450.00. I gave him an additional $50.00 even though he did not do everything that I wanted. I would have liked for him to do a smaller paint job in my bedroom that the previous contractor missed. Back in April I noticed that the caulking around my tub was peeling and needed to be replaced. I wanted for him to come by again to not only caulk the tub but to do two small jobs of removing door stops and then painting the part of the wall to make it unnoticeable in addition to the paint job in my bedroom that he did not do the last time. There were multiple phone calls, close to a dozen, by me in order to set up an appointment. On May 10, I informed him that I worked from home three days a week. He responded on May 13 that he needed to reschedule for May 15. We settled on May 17 but the appointment never happened. Each time that we wanted to reschedule there was always a scheduling conflict either through my work or his or a previous appointment that I had. On May 20, I drove out to his place about 16 miles away on one of days that I worked from home in order to set up an appointment. He showed up on May 23 to look at what needed to be done. I never received an estimate on the price, However, on May 26, he texted me that he was really backed up at the moment and would give a shout out next week. That was the last that I heard from him. On June 2 when I did not hear from him, I texted him because I wanted to know what his schedule looked like and if he could give me an estimate of the cost. As of June 28, I have not heard back from him. I have since hired two different contractors to caulk my tub and do the two small paint jobs. The caulk around the tub could not wait because the longer I waited, the more chance there was that damage would occur, and it would not fix itself. For the first appointment, I give him a 4, but for not responding to me, my overall experience dropped. I understand that he was busy, but I did drive out to his place and he never followed up on setting up an appointment.

Brad did an excellent job painting my condo, installing a kitchen tile backsplash, repairing water damage in bathroom and numerous other improvements. He is extremely conscientious and always arrived on time. He is knowledgeable and his work is a shining example. He was courteous and respectful of time and schedules. He completed the projects on time. Customer service from Cutting Edge is outstanding which I do not always experience. Clearly, the highest value for the price.

Exterior Home or Structure - Paint or Stain
Brad talked a great game. His specialty was painting Victorian Homes, which we have. I gave him a bigger deposit than he asked for to guaranty a spot on his busy calendar. After completion he was to be paid in full. He did a great job power washing the house. Brad worked for 3 to 5 hours a day on this job, which is OK, he was paid by the job, not the hour. What he did was nice work, scrapping, priming and one coat of final paint. As he worked his way to the high peaks of the house we saw him less and less. He then asked for an additional $1000.00 which I hesitantly gave him, but I did because what he had gotten done looked nice. He disappeared for a good week after I gave him the money, no explanation, just vanished. When he finally came back to the work site, his days here got shorter, started to discuss how to get to the high spots, which I thought for a professional painter was a little odd. He more less hinted for me to rent a lift or get ladders to get that high, which I declined to do, not my line of work. He eventually stopped showing up, returning my calls. The original estimate was for $5000.00, I gave him $3000.00 down, a $1000.00 cash advance (big mistake) and I received an unfinished home. Now I had to rehire a professional painter to finish the high areas at the tune of $1500.00, a lesson well learned. At least this professional comes with ladders.
Response from Cutting Edge Carpentry & Painting
"The project was, indeed, delayed, but by many factors, I could not control it. I was hired to start on your Victoria home on a certain date, and then you delayed me by beginning another project with the home 2 chimneys. Your chimney project caused another 2-month delay, due to the discovery of endangered birds nesting in the chimney. I was continuously calling you to have a start time. Once I was finally able to begin, and on the last section of your home, the windy lake conditions, we agreed, were too dangerous to continue to use the ladders, I provided, to reach the remaining 20 linear feet of the high peak dormer soffits. We discussed the use of a lift, instead. For me to complete the painting project, and gain access to the peaks and accommodate the lift, required the construction dumpsters to be relocated, and cars to be moved. Consequently, the painting project that began in May got pushed into the fall, which is not ideal weather for the paint; the paint I upgraded to acrylic enamel, out of my own pocket. Your decision was to wait to finish the peaks in the spring. Come spring and not having heard from you, I attempted to contact you numerous times, unable to leave a message in your full voicemail box. Yes, I spent 4-5 hours per day, as well as Saturdays and Sundays, because you pushed me off my schedule by months, and had other jobs pending. Additionally, there were more repairs discovered than were evident at the time of the estimate. I accommodated your schedule, working against all odds, ate much of the extra expenses, and went above and beyond to help you out. I take pride in the work I provide, which goes to show with my continued customer satisfaction, for over 40 years. Please contact me so we can discuss rectifying this issue."

He painted the doors and drawers and rehung them. Not one door is correct. When I asked him for another coat, it never happened, I did it. I asked that the lower frames be painted before the granite was put down, he would not do it. I did them. Two cabinet doors are in the wrong places and when I told him he was not happy. I had others look at the job, and was told to start over or live with it. After what he charged they should have been done correctly.

Cutting-Edge was out standing and meant every aspect expected from a business to include exceptional knowledge of requested work ( fence seal / stain and deck repairs, seal & stain) , and customer service. In today's industry the above mentioned business traits are rare - a true 5 stars rated company. Quality of workmanship is excellence and job estimates are VERY competitive.
