Your dryer vent hose should be as straight as you can possibly get it. A straight vent means less lint buildup in the hose. If the hose has a lot of bends and turns, it’s much easier and much more likely for lint to get stuck along the line, meaning you’ll have to clean it out a lot more often to decrease the risk of a total blockage or a fire.

You might have dampers if you have a ducted heating and cooling system. To find out for sure, find the main trunk line on your HVAC unit, then look for levers or handles on the ductwork. Contact a local HVAC professional if you can’t find any dampers or want to install some.

You’ll find the backdraft damper near the top of the range hood (where it connects to the ductwork). Dehumidifiers have moisture sensors and settings to control how they function, so they can pause when the air inside your home reaches a certain humidity level. This means that most modern dehumidifiers won’t dry out the air to the point where it’s uncomfortable. But older, more basic dehumidifiers that are left on too long could potentially dry out the air so much that your skin, hair, and sinuses start to feel dry.
