"It went great. I highly recommend them. They were a pleasure to deal with. The person that came out for the estimate answered all of my questions. The estimate was fair. The work was done on schedule and with no problem. At completion, everything was explained to me. I used their electrician which worked out fine. After completion the radon test showed that my level was now undetectable."

"We hired PureTech to advise us on a real estate inspection that included a radon test. That test came back over the safety threshold. After meeting with Zach C, he advised us to make some repairs in the basement and to schedule a retest. We did and the results speak for themselves; the levels came back well into the safe zone. I couldn't be more pleased with the recommendations made by PureTech and Zach C specifically. Saved us a bundle in what could have been a nightmare, and now the sale of our home can proceed. Thank you PureTech!"

"We were looking for a next-day inspection, and House Detective was the first firm to respond to the emails we sent out. Because we weren’t working off a referral, we didn’t know what to expect, but Kevin exceeded our expectations! He arrived on time, provided an overview of the inspection plan, highlighted the issues he’d be highlighting in his report during the inspection and generally inspired confidence. Although the firm charges a flat rate for inspections, Kevin spent an hour longer than planned with us, answering all of our questions. We were incredibly lucky to have chosen House Detective and will definitely recommend Kevin to our friends!"

"A building inspection I had done on my lovely lannonstone home (built in 1939) suggested there might be structural or drain tile problems in the basement. Jeff scheduled a wuick appointment and honestly told me that the leakage could be solved by mudjacking portions of the driveway adjacent to the area of leakage, a much less experienced and messy solution. I very much appreciated his honesty and fair dealing. He also walked the entire perimeter of the house to evaluate the landscape grading and emailed me a written report of his visit the next day."

"I used this company for my furnace/central air cleaning and they were very professional as well as for this job.  Mike arrived on scene and suggested some things to me and got the job done within an hour.  I will use them again in the future.

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

The cost for a radon mitigation system typically ranges from $800 to $1,500, with an average around $1,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of your home, the severity of the radon issue, and the type of system required. Your home's foundation type also significantly impacts the cost. For example, sealing and ventilating an unfinished basement might cost around $4,600, while encapsulating a crawl space without a foundation slab can range from $1,500 to $15,000.

There are steps you can take as a homeowner to remediate radon yourself. While a radon reduction professional can make the biggest impact in your home, you can make efforts to improve radon levels on your own by sealing cracks, increasing ventilation, and testing for radon regularly.

No, air purifiers are not an effective way to reduce or remove radon. Radon is a radioactive, inert gas that cannot be filtered by standard air purifiers, which are designed to capture particulates like dust and mold. While an air purifier can improve indoor air quality by removing other pollutants, it should not be relied upon for radon. The only effective solution for high radon levels is a dedicated radon mitigation system.

Radon is a cancer-causing radioactive gas that poses serious health risks, infiltrating homes through foundation cracks and unnoticed spaces.

The soil beneath your house is most likely what’s causing an increased level of radon. This is because soil holds radioactivity for a long time and it’s also what most buildings are built on. Another common source of radon is water from a source that hasn’t been through periodic radon tests, such as well water. Over time, the radon from the soil can inhabit other parts of your house like the foundation or plumbing.
