"Dave was very prompt about scheduling an appointment to meet with us about our electrical work. We had to run 240V out to a detached garage and then install an EV charger. He was very good about following up with us at every step and even told us when he was running late so that we didn't have to be concerned about when he was going to arrive. The electrical work was of excellent quality and the price was definitely reasonable. We will call Dave again when we have electrical work to be done and have already recommended him to neighbors."

"Everything was perfect. Cory was responsive to my call, got me on his schedule and arrived at the time he said he would be there. He fixed a light switch that another firm had replaced with a defective switch. He also checked the transformer for low voltage lights that another firm had said needed to be replaced and found all it needed was to be turned on. He replaced some burned out low voltage lights and even came back at night from another town to make sure all of them were working and never charged me for this. I'm not able to do this myself as I'm in a wheelchair and can't get outside. Cory at Beckett Electric can't be beat. He was awesome. I highly recommend Beckett Electric."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

How many string lights can be on one outlet depends on a number of varying factors, including the total wattage of your circuit, the type of lights, the energy needs of the lights, and cord specifications. It’s better to play it safe here to protect your circuit, so figure out the max wattage of your circuit, compare that to the lights, and move on from there. Generally speaking, LED string lights require less energy than incandescent bulbs, translating to a higher number of lights per circuit.

According to the National Electrical Code® (NEC®), the electrical code for kitchen outlets states that electrical outlets in a kitchen should be installed no more than 48 inches apart. This ensures that a receptacle is no further away than 24 inches from any place on the countertop. Countertops wider than 12 inches need an outlet on the wall above the countertop.

Hiring a professional electrician to wire a house costs anywhere from $1,500 to $10,000 or more depending on the size and complexity of the project. Most professional electricians charge $50 to $100 per hour. While the extra expense is significant, it’s worth it to ensure the safety of your home’s electrical system.

Yes, electric gates can be opened manually in an emergency. All electric gates in North America are subject to the UL 325 Standard for Safety, which requires at least two entrapment protection devices to be installed on an electric gate that allows emergency responders to bypass the gate and access the property.

A 60W LED bulb is likely labeled as “60W replacement” on the package—that’s because it provides about the same light output as a 60W incandescent bulb. In reality, it likely uses less energy—usually 15 watts or less. If that’s the case, then it’s perfectly fine to put a 60W LED bulb in a 40W socket. Your best bet is to read the package carefully. It will tell you the LED bulb’s actual wattage, and as long as it’s lower than the fixture, the bulb will be safe to use.
