"Excellent professional electrical work. Bill did a wonderful job of patiently explaining the entire process before beginning working. Bill made sure we had all of the most important electrical items on the transfer switch and after completion Bill made sure everything on the transfer switch was working by doing a test run. Everything worked out flawlessly. I highly recommend Specialty Electric and Data for your electrical needs!"

"This company is obviously nationwide and hires local contractors.  I trusted Agies List that all contractors are licensed, bonded and have background checks.  This person was a handyman and not qualified to wall mount, conceal wires, add electrical outlet.  He  spend five hours in my home, for a job that should have taken two hours and left the area in a disaster.  The TV was hung close to the ceiling, the wires were hanging down from the TV, and the receiver was sitting on top of a plaster box because the cord was too short.  He was obviously not qualified to install TV wall mounts.  I have photos.    As soon as he left, I called Best Buy Geek Squad.  They were able to come out the next day and mount the TV professionally.  I have used the geek squad in Virginia and they are highly qualified.  They charge more than this nationwide company but you get what you pay for.  I called Angies List the day after the disaster and said i did not want to rate this company but I wanted to talk to a manager. No one called me to apologize. I have cancelled my membership.  Do not use this company unless you can be assured that the local contractor is qualified and is licensed.  You should never let anyone into your home that has not had background checks.

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Homes in Wautoma built before the 1980s, especially those with outdated panels or knob-and-tube wiring, are prime candidates for electrical upgrades. Lakefront properties often need dock lighting and weatherproof outdoor outlets. If you notice frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, or warm outlets, these are signs your system may need attention. Rural homes also benefit from surge protection due to frequent storms.

Helpful?

In Wautoma, unexpected costs during electrical projects can include permit fees, specialized trenching for sandy soil, and upgrades to well pump or septic wiring. Lake properties may require additional work for dock wiring or moisture protection. Rural locations might see extra travel charges from electricians. Seasonal factors, like winter surcharges or fluctuating material availability, can also affect the overall scope of your project.

Helpful?

Electrical maintenance in Wautoma should focus on preparing for cold, snowy winters and humid summers. Inspect outdoor electrical connections and insulate panels before winter arrives. After spring’s freeze-thaw cycles, check outlets, conduit, and dock wiring for moisture or damage. Annual GFCI outlet testing is important due to high humidity near lakes. For homes over 20 years old, schedule yearly electrical system inspections to catch age-related issues early.

Helpful?

New homeowners in Wautoma should begin with a professional electrical panel inspection and install GFCI outlets in kitchens, baths, and near water. Update smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and check grounding—especially if your property uses a well. Prepare for winter by weatherproofing outdoor outlets and considering a generator hookup. For lakefront homes, prioritize safe dock wiring and reliable outdoor lighting for added safety and comfort.

Helpful?

To boost safety in Wautoma homes, install tamper-resistant outlets and GFCI protection, especially near water features or basements. Raise outlet height in finished lower levels and use weatherproof covers outdoors. For pet safety, secure cords in conduit and keep panels locked. Seal entry points to deter wildlife and add moisture protection to outlets, especially in lake areas. Whole-house surge protection is also recommended.
