"The whole process went smoothly. Product was available within estimate dates. Scheduling occurred per our needs. The removal of exiting tub/shower and installation of new shower was completed in one day. Shower looks great. Everyone involved was extremely friendly. "Dewey was excellent. My tile is my favorite part of my bathroom. Larger rectangles with a veining that is so well matched. The workmanship was excellent, floor was ceramic wide plank wood look and is beautiful! He also came back to install my backsplash! I would highly recommend Dewey. Figure out how much tile you need by measuring the backsplash area. Measure the height and length in feet and multiply to get the square footage. Don’t make adjustments for outlets or small cutouts but subtract the square footage for windows or other large obstructions from the total. To account for waste, get 10% more than your calculation.

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.

Poured-in-place terrazzo flooring is more durable than tile. In fact, it’s one of the most durable types of flooring on the market. It can last anywhere from 40 to 100 years, depending on maintenance. On average, you can expect your terrazzo floor to last about 75 years, but you will have to make repairs as needed.

You can lay tile directly on a plywood countertop, but if it’s a high-traffic surface in a kitchen, it’s better to add a moisture-resistant base. Plywood is susceptible to moisture, so if dampness seeps through from the surface around the sink or where you prep food, it can cause the plywood to warp, leading to grout damage, cracked tiles, or mold growth under the surface. 

Tile shouldn’t be set tight against the tub. Bathtubs can expand when filled, and they can shift slightly with the weight of occupants. For this reason, it’s important to leave a slight gap between the bathtub and the first row of tile. Aim for a narrow gap of approximately 1/16 of an inch, filled with caulk, to allow for this expansion and movement while still allowing for tile shower waterproofing.
