The company is founded and run by myself, Paul Spetz, and I am fully licensed (S2525) and insured. Our prices are dependent on size of property, amount of foliage, distance from our office and scope of the project. We operate on not-to-exceed price quoting and are usually able to start and finish a project quite promptly.

Land Surveying questions, answered by experts

Before starting land surveying in Madison, gather past surveys and your property deed, and review any easements or restrictions affecting your lot. Check your zoning classification and ensure property corners are accessible by trimming overgrown vegetation. Notify adjacent property owners about the upcoming survey, and confirm whether environmental reviews or permits are required for your specific area to keep your project moving smoothly.

Helpful?

In Madison, a standard residential boundary survey typically takes 2–4 weeks, while more complex projects like topographic surveys or those involving disputed property lines may require up to 8 weeks. Survey timelines can be extended by factors such as inclement weather, research into old property records, or additional municipal reviews, especially if your property is near wetlands or in a historic district.

Helpful?

Completing land surveying in Madison provides immediate clarity on property lines, helping you avoid disputes and meet local building requirements. In the long term, a professional survey supports future additions, protects your investment, and ensures compliance with city zoning and environmental regulations. Accurate surveys also streamline real estate transactions and help prevent costly encroachments or boundary issues down the road.

Helpful?

In Madison, unique terrain features like drumlins, kettle lakes, and marshy areas can complicate boundary surveys and property line identification. If your property is near Lake Mendota or within a historic neighborhood, you may need extra documentation or special review. Seasonal factors, such as frozen ground in winter or dense foliage in summer, can impact survey accuracy and accessibility, so plan your project timing accordingly.

Helpful?

When hiring a land surveying professional in Madison, prioritize those with local expertise and a strong understanding of city zoning and environmental requirements. Look for up-to-date technology, clear digital deliverables, and positive references from recent Madison projects. Ensure they communicate effectively, carry proper insurance, and offer transparent timelines and follow-up support to address any questions about your property boundaries.
