Stronghold Lock & Key is a local locksmith service made up of local technicians dedicated to providing fast, professional, competitively priced locksmith services in and around the Twin Cities metro area.

"I contacted Elijah by phone to discuss the project. He advised me about what the hardware options were and where to get the best price. (He said he could provide the hardware, but that there would be an uncharge and that I could save money by buying the hardware myself.) He indicated when he could do the installation. I told him I would shop for the hardware and contact him again when I had it. I was able to purchase the hardware the next morning. I contacted him with the windows of time in which I could have the work done. He indicated when he would come, he was on time, completed the work swiftly and cleaned up (sawdust from drilling the holes necessary for the installation) afterward."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

There are several ways to add security to a sliding glass door. To start, install a rod or deadbolt lock instead of the flip-lock that comes standard with most sliding glass doors. Add a sensor to the door and monitor any activity through your home security system.

Finally, installing shatterproof window film will help keep the structural integrity of the glass if it cracks.

A deadbolt lock is typically considered more secure than a regular lock based on its internal construction. Each deadbolt type has varying levels of security, ranging from withstanding a small amount of force to those that can take on multiple strikes and greater force. Regular locks provide little to no security and are typically used more for easy entry and simple installation.

Locksmiths offer keyless entry systems, high-security locks, panic bars, electronic access control, and biometric security solutions.

Rekeying your own locks is a low-cost task that prevents you from having to replace the locks themselves completely. The first couple of times you rekey a lock may be challenging because this is an intermediate DIY task. You can purchase a rekey kit from most hardware stores, but make sure you’re buying the kit from the brand of lock in your home that you’re going to rekey.

Typically, it can take around 15 minutes to rekey a lock. The time depends on the type of lock and how skilled you are at rekeying. The first time you rekey a lock, it may take a little longer. Once you get the hang of the process, it will move along much more quickly.
