We are a small masonry firm doing stonework in Northwest Wisconsin, mostly on new and remodeling jobs. Usually we work in conjunction with the homeowner and General Contractor on residential projects. Billing is usually half down at the beginning of the project for materials and balance billed at the end. Some larger projects may need interim payments. We are covered by insurance and our masons are experienced, with seasoned tenders. Porcelain tiles are denser and stronger than standard ceramic tiles, so they’ll last longer, often pushing past the 100-year mark.

The time it takes to retile a bathroom includes the installation time for the grout and tile, prep work, and waiting time. The waiting time allows the mortar, grout, and caulk to cure correctly.

A professional tiler can finish your bathroom tiling in about 6 to 8 hours. Add another 24 hours in between steps, for 2 to 3 days before the tiling is done.

Just because you can, doesn’t always mean you should. You can apply new tile over existing tile in a bathroom, but the new tile may not look great if you lay it over worn, cracked, or uneven tiles. The adhesive may not be able to attach the new tile to the old tile properly, and this will add more weight to the drywall.

It takes more time and effort, but removing existing tiles before retiling a bathroom is worth it.
