"Matt is an excellent contractor. He rebuilt our porch, remodeled the bathroom, put 2 decks on the front and back of our home. He projected a month to complete all our projects, and despite some unexpected challenges finished ON TIME! Matt returned all calls, sent pictures/videos as we were not living there. I would not hesitate AT ALL in having Matt Schmelling do your projects. Thank you Matt your talent & skills are hard to find. You are so appreciated!"

"Myron was great. He opened up our wall to allow easy access to our closet. The centrally located 6ft doors on a 12ft wide x 30in deep closet weren’t working. He worked with me to create a plan that would work and got the work done in a timely manner. He did a great job."

Small jobs welcome

"I had MAJOR water damage in my family room on my outside wall ( half brick- huge window) and a bit on the adjoining walls as well. Dante Wilmet was a miracle worker on this project. He had to remove the outside wall completely and rebuild ( including the brick). He did an amazing job… stuck to his quote. If there was anything that came along that would cost extra- he would call to make sure it was ok with me to proceed. He was always on time and extremely reliable. If I could afford to gut my whole house- I would gave Wilmet Construction do the job!"

"I highly recommend Armon Renovations. We hired Armon for a major second-story home addition, including structural framing, roofing, siding, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, drywall, tile, flooring, trim, and finish work. This was not a small or simple project, and Quincy and his team handled it with professionalism, strong communication, and real attention to detail. What stood out most was their willingness to work through complexity. As the project evolved, including added structural requirements, Armon stayed responsive, practical, and focused on getting the work done the right way. They were also fair and transparent when changes needed to be discussed. The quality of the finished work is excellent, and the addition feels like it belongs with the home rather than something added on later. I appreciated the craftsmanship, problem-solving, and accountability throughout the project. For anyone considering a renovation, addition, or larger home project, Armon Renovations is absolutely"

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Yes, most general contractors require an initial down payment. A reasonable deposit is typically between 10% and 25% of the total project cost, although this can vary by project size and location. This upfront payment helps the contractor cover initial costs like materials, permits, licensing, and hiring subcontractors. The remaining balance is usually billed according to a schedule outlined in your contract, often tied to project milestones or completion dates. Be cautious of contractors who ask for a large deposit of 50% or more, as this could be a red flag for a scam.

In addition to overseeing new home builds, construction managers work on large renovations and major remodels. For example, they may work with designers and oversee the construction of a finished basement, kitchen renovation, or a home addition. They may also oversee large-scale remodels, such as the update of a historic home. Construction managers step into small projects for more specific assistance, such as building budgets and compiling the team.

The cost of finishing a basement is about $18,400 on average. As you can see, the framing portion of this project costs less, because you’re essentially just dealing with laying the foundation for a finished basement. The finishing portion of the project involves a lot more intricate work and design, as well as high-end materials.

Yes, you can add a door to your basement—it might even be required, depending on building codes in your area and whether or not you’re using the basement as a bedroom. A basement contractor can give you some advice on installation and help you add a door to your basement.

Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.
