Beginning in 2017, Happy Home Remodeling, LLC has been offering interior and exterior residential remodeling services to homeowners and real estate investors. We are fully insured, licensed dwelling contractor by the state of Wisconsin. We are investors and flippers ourselves, who specialize in buying broken houses and completing extensive remodels to create high end rentals. We offer remodeling services to homeowners looking to transform their home into a new vision. Between 2017 and 2022, we flipped 18 houses and completed dozens of remodeling projects for customers. "Everyone who worked on my project were subcontractors. The contact person’s contracting company did not do a good job, then tried 3 times to fix it by remudding and painting. It truly was unacceptable drywall installation. This doubled the length of the project. Corners were cut, critical steps were not done. I was left finally with a finished project done correctly by another drywall installer. It was not a pleasant experience, and I do not recommend them."

"Gerry is an exceptional contractor and exceptional human being. As newer homeowners and inexperienced handy persons, Gerry went out of his way to explain processes and provide thoughtful insight into the work being completed. He has a great relationship with his subcontractors and that was prominent when issues arose as they were quickly fixed. We provided Gerry with a professional drawing of the basement and he provided his thoughts and made quality improvements without changing the overall layout. Our basement was built during the COVID pandemic and Gerry stored masks and disinfectant directly outside our front door so all parties involved felt comfortable and safe. During the initial quote was honest about the supply chain disruption and the potential for delay in supplies. Overall, it was fantastic to have an individual flexible and accommodating to the changing environment. The quality of finished basement exceeded our expectations by far. Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.

Joists and beams are both part of the flooring system above your basement, with the beams spanning the length of your home and getting support from vertical posts underneath, and joists usually spanning half the width of your home with no support posts underneath. The floor joists provide even support to the subflooring and flooring above, and they distribute that load to the beams. The beams then distribute that load down through the support posts to the foundation.

Building a bar in the basement will likely add value to your home, although it’s unlikely that you’ll see a significant return on investment (ROI) unless you plan on using the space for you and your guests. If you think you’ll use the area frequently, though, it’s probably worth the investment, and you should see a bump in value if or when you sell your property.

If you have the woodworking experience to build a bar from scratch and you have the time, DIYing the work is a no-brainer and can save a few thousand dollars. However, if you’re looking to include a sink, additional lighting fixtures, or high-end bar tops and cabinets, it’s usually a better idea to call in a pro. It will cost more, but the finished product will likely be worth it.
