"I've been researching/exploring roof replacement options and companies (knowing I have an aged hail damaged roof) for the last few years. I've witnessed my neighbor going with a low bid and the resultant problems he had to deal with to get resolved. NOT SO with Ridgetop Exteriors! I addressed my (and my neighbors') concerns with Mitch Meyer and he assured me that quality of services rendered were of utmost importance. I was able to get the color and quality of shingle replacement at an awesome price. Mitch Meyer was at the jobsite multiple times throughout the day to attend the work and address concerns if they arose. The crew was diligent in installation of my 1850sq/ft roof and the entire procedure was completed in 12 hours from old roof removal to reshingle to cleanup. Again, I couldn't be happier or more satisfied with the entire experience."

"Chad and his crew were absolutely amazing. From the first sales call, until the last nail of completion, I knew we could count on him. He had been referred, and we immediately felt comfortable with Chad, as he patiently explained the value in a significant undertaking - this roof will be there another 200 years, the quality is just that good! The work was on-time, professional, and the crew did a great job of cleaning up when they are done. We plan to use Metal Roofs Direct for other roofs when the time comes!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

The common formula for measuring a roof is length x width equals square footage. Professional roofers measure the length and width of your roof, including dormers, and determine its pitch and rafter sizes. If a roof surface is a triangle, they’ll divide that square footage by two, then add up the square footage of each surface to get the total for the roof.

Many roofers remove satellite dishes as part of their services, especially during roof repairs or replacements. However, they typically won’t reconnect or reinstall the dish. If you no longer need the dish, roofers can dispose of it, but for reuse, you may need a satellite technician to handle reinstallation.

During the framing process, builders connect the roof to the walls with materials, including metal connectors, plywood panels, and wood blocks. These roof-to-wall connections are important and provide weatherproofing, noise and temperature insulation, protection against pests, and home integrity. The type of connector and method used will vary, depending on your home’s construction and needs, and each has pros and cons in terms of cost, noise insulation, longevity, and reliability. Talk with your home or roofing contractor about the best connectors for your roof and walls, and what they recommend for your home.

The lifespan of an impact-resistant roof averages 30 to 50 years, depending on the quality of the shingles and the amount of wear and tear it endures. Some high-quality shingles may last even longer. For comparison, a standard asphalt roof lasts about 20 years, so choosing an impact-resistant option can increase your roof's lifespan by 50% or more, particularly in regions prone to extreme weather.

The terms “roof shingles” and “roof tiles” are sometimes used interchangeably, but the term “shingles” most often refers to asphalt, rubber, metal, or slate shingles, and the term “tiles” normally means they’re made from clay or concrete. In all cases, shingles are small, rectangular components that a roofer layers in an overlapping pattern to protect the structure underneath from the elements.
