"We had a great experience working with Top Bros construction and remodeling. They fully removed our tile and wood flooring and installed LVP that we had provided. They also installed new trim and baseboards throughout, which look great. They were timely and efficient. We are very happy with the outcome!"

"The painters showed up early and did a fantastic job! They repaired damaged drywall and cleaned up after being here about 9 hours! I highly recommend R&D painters!"

"I hired GR General Contracting to remodel my basement. Every aspect of the project was excellent. My remodeled basement is beautiful. I would definitely hire again. Gordon communicated regularly about the project schedule and kept me up to date every step of the way. The crew were outstanding and it was a pleasure to have them working in my my home. At the end of every day I received a walk through of the progress and an overview of the next days work. I am thoroughly impressed with my experience working with GR General Contracting."

Customers say: Quality work

"The owner Bill and his team have done several jobs for me on two different houses. All of their work has been of excellent quality and completed within the estimated time frame even when unforeseen issues with the old 1920s house arose. Bill is incredibly knowledgeable and fully informed me of exactly what he had to do and why he had to do it every step of the way. I was able to be as involved as I wished to be in each decision, and he was great about accommodating my work schedule when we had to meet. I like to be involved in decisions on the design details (fixtures, tile, etc.), but if I didn't have time to, I would trust Bill completely to make those decisions. He stands behind his work too. I strongly recommend Emallys, and I will be hiring them again within the next two years for another project. These are the projects Emallys has done for me so far: In the upper flat of a 20s duplex: full bathroom remodel, partial kitchen remodel, installation of all new windows and fascia, conversion from boiler/radiators to forced air with new furnace and new central air conditioning, installation of new water heater, new plumbing (in flat and basement), new railings (to bring them to code), and the scraping and treating of basement walls. In a 1940s duplex: new jump porch off room in upper flat and reconstruction of the area beneath a set of storm cellar doors leading to basement."

"An Aluminum Siding repair. Was having difficulty finding someone to do this, as most contractors do not do aluminum siding, or want to remodel instead of just repair. Rich gave me a couple of options, did not try to sell me on any additional work, and completed the work earlier than promised. The repair is fine."

"Joe Timm did an extensive remodel of our 1965 ranch fixer-upper, that included kitchen, 2 baths, great room, 1 bedroom, and den. He was professional and thorough. His price quotes were on-target and reasonable. He was reliable: he called and visited when he said he would. We'll use him again for our unfinished basement. We highly recommend Joe and his work."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

If you don’t have a crawl space but have a partial basement you want to make deeper, you can expect to spend a little less—between $40,000 and $90,000 on average. However, if you’re not adding new finished square footage, you won’t see much in the way of ROI.

Costs are guided by renovation scope, materials chosen, project duration, structural needs, and labor. Prioritizing tasks prevents unforeseen expenses.

Yes. Renovating your basement has a return on investment (ROI) of 75%, meaning your remodel investment will significantly increase the value of your home. Besides the ROI, your family can enjoy a larger, more usable space while you live there.

Rebar is an essential part of reinforcing a basement floor, as not having it can impact its structural integrity. It helps absorb the tension factors that contribute to cracks in your floor and strengthens its load-bearing capabilities by evenly distributing the weight. Not including rebar could lead to an unstable floor, so don’t skip it!

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.
