"He said to me, don't focus on the wiring just watch the TV instead. I waited three days later, went to Home Depot and purchase a white stick post and just layed it over the wirer because he nailed and tacked everything to the wall. Its working out, that's how it's going."

"Everything was great. We really appreciated the fact that Shena fit us in on an already busy week for her because we had a guest coming the next weekend. She was also really flexible and helpful in telling us how we could do some of the work ourselves (removing a wallpaper border, cleaning the walls/ceiling with bleach, painting Kilz over some mold spots, spot priming) to fit our limited budget. She also put anti-mold chemicals in the paint rather than priming the entire walls to save money (at our request). She and Bill were very quick and professional and did excellent work--also very friendly and personable. I would highly recommend them to anyone."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

No, you should not leave LED Christmas lights up all year. While the LED lights themselves are very durable, their wiring and casings can be as vulnerable as any Christmas lights. They’re subject to drying out, experiencing cold or sun damage that causes them to crack, and even damage caused by gnawing pests. (The same is true of incandescents.) If you want your lights to last the years that they’re rated for, bring them inside after Christmas is over.

The five common types of landscape lighting are up-lighting, down-lighting, spotlights, built-in lighting, and pathway lighting.

  • Up-lighting casts light upwards from the ground, mostly for aesthetic purposes.

  • Down-lighting directs light onto the ground, lighting pathways, or outdoor space.

  • Spotlights cast direct, focused lighting in any direction.

  • Built-in lighting integrates lighting into an outdoor feature.

  • Pathway lighting illuminates walkways, increasing safety.

One possibility is that they aren’t getting enough sunlight during the day, which could be due to a lack of sunshine in your area or trees blocking the solar panel. Alternatively, if the solar panel is dirty or the batteries are dying, your solar lights might not operate at full brightness.

The easiest and best way to power your outdoor lights is with the use of outdoor outlets. Most building codes now require exterior outlets in homes, so you likely already have outdoor outlets available to plug into. However, you can have these outlets installed if your space doesn’t currently include them.

If you need to visually inspect your Christmas lights to determine which are good and which need replacement, there are a few things to look for. First, look for discoloration, such as a dark spot or two on the inside of the glass. The spot is an indication of a burnt filament. Also, look for missing filaments, cracked bulb glass, and broken sockets.
