Gophers are ubiquitous in certain areas, and the only way to completely get rid of them is to put down gopher wire two feet below the surface of your soil and vertically along the edges of your yard. Unfortunately, this may not be a practical solution unless you’re completely redoing your yard or installing an aboveground garden. Alternatively, you may consider putting underground rock barriers around the edge of your yard to discourage gopher visits. However, you’ll still likely get some pests because they can dig as deep as 6 feet below the surface.

Silverfish can crawl on you in your sleep. They enjoy consuming dandruff and will crawl on your scalp for nourishment. They can also find their way to your hairbrushes and anywhere you’ve shed dandruff. It’s important to keep pillowcases, sheets and brushes clean to avoid making your bed hospitable for unwanted guests.

Squirrels are like scent detectives. They rely heavily on their noses to locate their next meal and cozy shelter. But guess what? They're not fans of certain scents like coffee grounds, peppermint, white vinegar, garlic, cinnamon, and predator urine. You can try some natural squirrel-repellent tricks by whipping up a garlic and vinegar spray concoction and applying it daily to areas you want to protect.

Anecdotal evidence suggests coffee grounds can keep chipmunks away. Sprinkle them throughout your garden, yard, and plants to help deter them. As an added bonus, coffee grounds can help keep the slugs away, and they’re great for acid-loving plants such as hydrangeas, azaleas, and rhododendrons.

Typically, fleas won’t take up residence in human hair. Their natural preference is to live on the fur of animals, but they can bite and infest humans on a temporary basis. If there is a significant flea infestation in the surrounding environment, humans may inadvertently become a host. Again, though, this is a rare occurrence.
