Small jobs welcome

"Everything went great!  I called him on Monday and he came out immediately the next day.  He gave me a price estimate over the phone based on what I explained was the problem and he ended up coming in under that amount.  Jim is very professional and was wonderful to work with; he even gave us a suggestion of a tool we can purchase on our own to clean hair from drains so that we wouldn't need to call a plumber in the future. We will definitely use him again in the future."

"It was the guarantee that sold us, as the work was expensive. We've been grateful for our dry basement ever since. Everdry Waterproofing came back twice for minor repairs, no problem. Would have liked the basement floor flatter at the wall where the french drain was installed. But overall it was good work."

French Drains questions, answered by experts

Yes, continuing to flush a clogged toilet is not likely to break up the clog. Instead, it will continue to put pressure on the clog while filling the bowl with more water, which can potentially cause the toilet to overflow—leading to an even bigger mess. Rather than repeatedly flushing, use a toilet plunger or plumber’s snake to dislodge the clog.

Yes, hiring a drain cleaner is worth it, especially when compared to the cost of not being able to use a sink, shower, toilet, or bathtub and the potential damage that flooding can cause in your home. You might try a temporary drain cleaning liquid or snaking it yourself, but if the clog is out of reach or these methods do not work, then hiring a professional drain cleaner is the way to go.

Biodegradable drain cleaners use naturally derived ingredients, such as baking soda, vinegar, and boiling water, which bacteria and other microbes can break down. Unlike conventional cleaners that rely on corrosive bleach (sodium hydroxide), biodegradable options are gentler on fixtures and less harmful to the environment. Because they don't release harmful gasses, they are also safer to use, especially in households with children, and do not require the same safety precautions as bleach-based products.

Air gaps get clogged by a few different means. Over time, food and grime can collect in the air gap, leading to a blockage. Mineral deposits from hard water are a common problem. Mineral buildup creates a film in the air gap and tubing, which can cause flow issues, as well as attract debris. Homeowners with hard water may want to remove mineral deposits regularly to keep the air gap clean and clear.

Even if the shower drain doesn’t seem clogged or dirty, plan to clean it out about once per month—or more frequently if you or your family shed a lot of hair. It’s a good practice to remove any hair from the drain on a daily basis, as hair can accumulate fast and cause clogs in no time. You may also want to have a plumber thoroughly clean the drains in your home once every six months.
