Kyle was very professional and his work was excellent. I would use his service again and I strongly recommend his service.
We had two showers started by another tile contractor. That tile contractor took no measures to shim the walls before putting on the cement board. In addition, he did not build the curbs properly. We let that tile guy go and hired Tilesmith. We called Kyle and he responded very quickly and met with us to assess the situation. Kyle agreed that the work previously done by the initial contractor had to be fixed before he could do the tile work in the showers. He removed the cement board and meticulously shimmed the walls so they were perfectly plum. His crew put on new cement board and rebuilt the curbs properly. It is all in the prep work and Tilesmith excels in this area. After the waterproofing was completed, Tilesmith did the tiling of the two showers. We are extremely pleased with the workmanship. All cuts are precise. Kyle built a large niche in each shower. His miters and cuts are perfect. Kurt was a pleasure to have in our home assisting Kyle. Kurt does amazing grout work. The showers came out perfectly plum and even our custom shower door guy mentioned how plum the showers were. If care is not taken to square up the walls with the cement board, it will show up when the tile is laid. You will not be happy! That is why we let the first tile guy go.
We also had a bad experience with Budiac Plumbing not doing their work properly. Kyle helped us out by advising the plumber there were problems.
Tilesmith gave us a fair price considering we were out money paid to the first tile contractor. We couldn't be more pleased with the experience. Kyle has also helped us with taking out a vanity and re-doing some drywall work that again was not done properly by the drywall guy, Edwards Drywall Service. The whole renovation process was extremely stressful except for Tilesmith. It is really hard to find good contractors these days that do quality work. You will not be disappointed if you hire Tilesmith.
Functional aesthetics are just as important as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical. I made a deep financial investment in high-end ceramic, porcelain, and exotic glass tile materials for a major remodel of my only bathroom. This was the bathroom I?d wanted for 20+ years. The scariest part of the entire project (plumbing, carpentry, etc.) was selecting a tile installer. No average to poor tile installation can ever make functionality worry-free, or make beautiful tile look fabulous. My installation made all the difference between my loving or hating ?that bathroom? more than I did before and for the rest of my life in my home.
I was skeptical and I balked at the lists of tile installers the tile suppliers gave me, but I tried them. Some didn?t return my calls at all. Others sounded more like they?d think about whether they wanted my business rather than my thinking about if I wanted them as an installer. One lady called me back and said her phone number had stopped being the tile setter?s phone number 5 years ago. All her pleading with tile suppliers to take the number off their list had clearly failed. It made me wonder how much the suppliers paid any attention at all to those lists.
Then, there were ?I know A. Guy who does tile? recommendations from everyone who never actually had work done by A. Guy, or A. Guy?s work was a small or ordinary job. After a while, it seemed that everyone does tile, or everyone sets tile. Even my carpentry and plumbing contractors knew A. Guy. A. Guy frequently didn?t set tile for a living or set tile five years ago. I was uncertain if A. Guy would be around 5 years or more from now when I might need him for something that may have gone wrong on my job. Angie?s List was my last resort when it should have been my first.
Finally, and ecstatically, I found Tilesmith, LLC on Angie's. From mid-November to late December 2013, I was fortunate and blessed to have Tilesmith do my bathroom. The owner, Kyle, responded to my first call promptly. He was patient with me and my questions. He was very personable, helpful, and professional. He made me feel comfortable and that no idea of mine was silly or un-doable. After meeting with Kyle, learning what Tilesmith had to offer, and learning that A. Guy didn?t offer a 10-year warranty, I knew I didn?t need to get another quote elsewhere.
I met the crew before work began, so I knew exactly who would be in and out of my home. I was equally impressed with Justin, Kurt, and John. Kyle and the Tilesmith crew always listened to my concerns and made me feel that I was truly their customer paying them; not the other way around. They were undaunted by the challenges a poorly built, 55 year-old home presents. They did what needed to be done to create durable beauty completely different and unrecognizable from the original bathroom. They made the major overhaul look easy. When I had occasion to watch, I was amazed at the technical skills and craftsmanship it takes to do this kind of work and to make this kind of beauty. Every completed section was a "Wow!" When it was finished, even my carpentry and plumbing contractors said that their A. Guy ?couldn?t have done that.? The Tilesmith tile installation is a true work of functional art down to every detail. I have every confidence that I will never have a problem with my installation--functionally or aesthetically--and ten years will be plenty of time to prove it out.
After 20+ years of hate, I LOVE my bathroom thanks to Tilesmith. It is most definitely one of a kind. When the time comes, Tilesmith will be doing my kitchen, too!
Kyle came out a few days after I left him a voicemail and quoted the job via e-mail the next day. The cost was actually very close the cost of the original shower pan, I wish I would have just started with Tilesmith, it would have saved me money, time and a horrible headache...
Kyle installed a very professional shower pan and curb over the existing shower pan, he did all the things you would need to end up with a professional, properly graded and water proofed pan. It has a curb, drains perfectly and it will be a snap for me to finish tiling my master bathroom now.
Overall the project took about two weeks from quote to finish and I found this to be quite acceptable for the amount of work performed and for how busy Tilesmith is this time of year. Kyle was super professional and a nice person to have in my home. I would recommend him for this type of work or any work he advertises.
The scope of work was massive. With Sean's help, the bathroom was completely and neatly demolished -taken back to the studs. We also moved a wall 9" to enlarge the shower. The ceramic tile floor was removed (only to find another ceramic tile floor underneath! and that one was removed as well). The demo was completed in about 6 hours.
Kyle and Sean then began putting things back together. The job was done very professionally. We had excellent conversations, and they understood what we wanted. One example of this is that I took my largest shampoo bottles to Kyle, and he designed a beautiful, multi-level niche to accommodate all of our showering essentials.
The floor was leveled, and a heat mat was installed beneath the tile floor. The curb was built up nicely, and the tiles "wrap around".. a very nice touch. Also, in the shower, the brick pattern "wraps" around at the corners. It looks very upscale. I was not sure of what kind of edging to do around the shower, and they suggested a "pencil tile." I like the look very much.
They also built a corner bench that comes in very handy.
To help keep costs down, I did not order the border tiles for the baseboards as they were very expensive. Kyle cut all of the baseboards out of the leftover tiles, and it looks great.
We went with a natural travertine tile in a versailles pattern on the floor, and that pattern was repeated in the niche and on the shower bench. A brick pattern was used on the walls, and 2x2's make up the ceiling in the shower and the shower floor.
Overall we are very happy with the work done by Tilesmith.
I would highly recommend Kyle to anyone looking to have ceramic tile work done.
