"WARNING - make sure you get a fully price estimate up front before they begin to do work. I brought them in to work on furnace/AC unit/split AC unit servicing garage (based on a promotional price for the first two). It was found my split unit needed a recharge for coolant and I was told that it'd only be 5 lbs of coolant and that this would be priced by the pound (which was reasonable). The bill came and they tacked on a flat charge of $219 for the coolant (this is in addition to the $129 charge to look over the split unit). I felt baited-and-switched. I also contacted them about this, and the answer came down to "This is additional profit for us added onto your bill." Not pleased. At all. Particularly since the coolant in question costs approximately $6 per pound and they only used 5 lbs (one would assume that the $129 charge built in enough profit for labor/licenses/equipment due to the limited time spent working on the split unit. Apparently not). Comfort By Design does excellent work, and they do stand by their work, but just be VERY CAREFUL in finding out what they're going to charge you, particularly if something extra comes up when they're doing a job."

No, you shouldn’t leave a gas line uncapped because it can allow gas to escape into your environment, which can lead to fires, explosions, and health hazards. If your home uses more than one gas appliance, you'll continue to use gas, even outside of the heating season. Your water heater, gas stove and oven, and gas dryer will all use some gas, although typically much less than a furnace. Additionally, those appliances may also have a pilot light that is lit continually, using a small amount even when no one is at home.

The effect a gas fireplace has on your gas bill will depend on how often you use it, the size of the rooms you’re heating with it, and the BTUs of the fireplace itself, but generally speaking, it should only cost a few cents an hour to run it when it’s on. It will consume minimal energy when it’s “off” if you have a pilot light running constantly, but some modern gas fireplaces don’t require a constant pilot light.

It’s no secret that natural gas differs from propane, but you’re in luck—licensed plumbers can also install propane gas lines. When you speak to a gas plumber near you, be sure you specify that your project will be for propane gas, not natural gas. Propane lines are slightly different than natural gas lines, so clear communication is key to ensure that your project is completed without a hitch.
