"Excellent initial consultation with Ryan M. Careful COVID-19 prevention measures. Thorough and knowledgeable explanation of all options. Provided a quote that did not change throughout the entire process. Scheduled an installation appointment about 6 weeks later. We requested a change order that was dealt with expeditiously. Installers arrived on at the day and time as promised. Jon B. and Chris G. were professional and skilled. Demolition debris had to be removed by carrying it throughout our entire house and when finished, they left everything immaculate. Job involved a significant amount of demolition, re-routing of plumbing, addition of walls, water proofing an existing window, and installation of a walk-in shower with multiple shower heads. Again, professional in all aspects. Would hire again in a minute."

"

I initially had a poor interaction with Mike that did not result in solving the above plumbing problem above. However, he has since connected with me and resolved the issue fairly.  He did an excellent job the first time I hired him (successfully unclogging a tub drain). Even though the second time we hired him was not successful (and we had to hire a second plumber to resolve the problem) we will use him in the future because he reached out to resolve our concerns in a professional manner.

"I cannot say enough good things about Rich and his crew at Custom Craft Environmental. After having our sump get overwhelmed by 7+ inches of rain, we were lost. Made several calls to "national" water clean up companies with no reason. Rich was at our house 2 hrs after we called and his crew was there the next morning. They were efficient, helpful, knowledgeable, kind, punctual. Price was good and work was excellent. We highly, highly recommend."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Proper freeze protection is the most critical factor for plumbing longevity in Algoma. Install exterior pipes well below the 48-inch frost line and insulate vulnerable lines in unheated spaces. You must also account for local water chemistry to prevent scale buildup in water heaters. When updating older homes, inspect the existing clay or galvanized pipes to ensure safe, secure connections that prevent leaks and future failures.

Helpful?

You must hire a licensed and insured professional for plumbing. Verify their credentials through state directories before starting work. Since local contractors are limited, confirm their availability and response times for your specific location in WI. Look for professionals experienced with deep frost lines, lake-effect weather, and the unique challenges of older homes built in the early 1900s. Proper expertise ensures your home stays safe and code-compliant.

Helpful?

Upgrading plumbing directly impacts other household systems in WI. If your home relies on a hydronic boiler for heating, modifying water supply lines alters your heating system pressure. Kitchen and bathroom renovations trigger electrical upgrades, requiring new safety outlets near water sources. Additionally, changing basement drain lines affects your sump pump function and foundation drainage. Always consult a professional to coordinate these overlapping home systems safely.

Helpful?

Locate and test your main interior shutoff valve before emergencies happen. During extreme cold snaps in Algoma, allow a slow trickle from vulnerable faucets to prevent freezing. Never use an open flame to thaw pipes, as this creates a severe fire hazard. For slow drains, use a plunger instead of harsh chemicals to protect older pipes. Contact a licensed professional immediately for sewage backups or burst pipes.

Helpful?

Start by checking local permit requirements for plumbing work in Algoma. Schedule your project for late summer or fall to avoid the busy spring thaw season. You must account for the local frost depth of 48 to 60 inches when burying exterior lines. Finally, consider the municipal water supply from Lake Michigan. This moderately hard water requires specific pipe materials and water heater sizing for optimal performance.
