Small jobs welcome

"My husband and I hired Emma to help us decorate our living/dining rooms and foyer - which was proving difficult as we both had very different styles and preferences. Emma was able to speak to each of us and pull in elements from us both to design a space that we both loved. She helped us set clear expectations - whether it was budget, must-haves vs. nice-to-haves, or order of importance (e.g., we had to settle on the couch first). The space now feels like both of us and we absolutely love it!"

"Rosell Home went beyond the scope of my expectations on the extensive remodel of my home. There were walls that needed to be removed for an open floor plan and all required city permits were scheduled and approved in a timely manner. They made recommendations that enhanced the end result and stayed within budget and their timeline."

"I had 3 bathrooms recently remodeled by Pardy Home Improvements and am thrilled with the results. Dave and his team were AMAZING. There's not enough positive words to describe. He communicated clearly, stayed within budget, offered suggestions to improve the vision I had. The job estimate turn contract was detailed so not to have hidden charges later. The crew were kind, clean, and respectful of my home. Dave was even willing to meet me and help with design choices! Start to finish. So happy! I'll be calling again when and if I have another project."

"I absolutely LOVED working with James and his partner. Not only were they always on time with pre-scheduled time, but they explained each step and what should be the plan to fix our issue. While they were working, I thought of another item for them to look at while here, they graciously listened and took a moment to suggest what can be done. I had to leave the home while they were working so when I came home, I couldn't believe how wonderful everything was. And, what sold me wasn't just the great work and their professionalism, but that they actually returned my garbage cans to their spot after they were emptied that day. That was such a small thing but the biggest thing to make me smile and tear up. I highly recommend them and we've already discussed maintenance on a few things inside the home to be performed this summer. Using HomeAdvisor was flawless and gave me the confidence of using professionals I could trust. Thank you so much, James and crew!"

Interior Design and Decorating questions, answered by experts

An architect is usually involved in the process of determining the layout and structural features and requirements of the home itself, taking into account the local codes, climate, and materials needed to make the home structurally sound. Architects may communicate more with contractors and subcontractors throughout the building process. In comparison to architects, interior designers typically focus on the aesthetics of a home interior and possibly exterior, helping the homeowner decide on color schemes, textures, and materials to incorporate into the design.

Services include layout planning, material selection, lighting design, and appliance placement to optimize the space.

It’s unnecessary to tip holiday decorators, and most professionals won’t expect it, but it’s a nice gesture to show your appreciation for their work. If the expert goes above and beyond to keep your delicate decorations safe, or they’re hanging your exterior lights and putting out lawn decorations in freezing temperatures or inclement weather, a tip between 10% and 20% of your total will be appreciated. Large jobs that include interior and exterior work are also good opportunities to tip, especially if your expert is performing a rush job close to the holidays.

British architect John Nash is credited with creating the Italianate style of architecture. The style was further popularized in the U.S. by landscape architect Andrew Jackson Downing and architect Calvert Vaux. The style spread across the U.S. due to Downing’s popular book on the style and the availability of plans and materials due to the mass production of the Industrial Revolution.

A chandelier can last 10 to 50 years or more, depending on its quality, usage, and maintenance. High-quality chandeliers made of durable materials like crystal, brass, or wrought iron tend to have longer life spans. Regular cleaning, timely light bulb replacement, and proper care can extend its life significantly. Vintage or antique chandeliers can sometimes last for generations with proper restoration and upkeep.

If your chandelier is flickering, it may just need new bulbs or wiring, so consider repairs before replacing it.
