"We were super impressed by Ryan Johnson. In preparing for our full kitchen and attic remodel, we met with so, so many contractors (GCs, flooring, carpenters, architects/engineers, etc) and Johnson Custom Builders truly came out at the top. Ryan was prompt and clear in all of his communications. He got in touch with me right away to schedule an appointment after I requested a bid. He showed up on time, and we had a thorough conversation about our project. He clearly has a lot of great ideas and knows what he is talking about. He quickly caught some elements in our drawings that could be done differently for better effect. As a woman who is interested in design and building, I often feel diminished or disrespected when meeting with contractors, but with Ryan it felt as if he was talking to me as a peer. I deeply appreciate that. After our appointment he promptly sent me a very detailed cost breakdown for a project that was similar in scope to ours, and was patient as I asked clarifying questions. In the end, we decided we wanted the adventure and learning experience of contracting the job ourselves, but will gladly come crawling back to Ryan with our tails between our legs if we end up needing to hire someone."

After speaking with Char once we knew we were in good hands. Her communication was perfect. We would have weekly updates to go over the process and discuss any changes or recommendations. We were on a tight budget for the building costs, so when we found a contractor that we enjoyed, they were able to understand and calculate an accurate estimate from her drawings that were within our budget. She was able to get all the permitting for the additions from the City of Burien within 3 weeks with no redactions. We would hire her again, as matter of a fact, we did hire her for another build/design, Immediately after designing the house additions, but we just ran out of money for that build. I even recommended her to several other friends with their builds."

"No words can describe how exceptional Julia and Stone are at their work. My husband and I wanted to build a bathroom and we needed their help with getting the construction permit. And since we never tackled such a big home renovation project, we initially really did not know how much we would need them (turns out, yes, we needed them very much and we are just so lucky to have them onboard). Not only did they research extensively into the building codes (including calling the city to sort out any confusions) but they poured so much thought into the design of our bathroom so that it made the most efficient use of space (I love their design). Their detailed drawings also make it easy for our contractor to know what to do, so we don't need to worry about the layout and we know exactly what should be happening with the construction. In addition, they also work with us during the construction process (e.g. to address problems with inspections) and are extremely efficient with getting things done competently and as fast as possible. As someone who always finds things to worry about, working with Julia and Stone has been a pleasantly worry-free process. As we've recently moved to Seattle and are building up a repertoire of trustworthy businesses for home-related things, Refine Design is most definitely a business that we will go back to in the future, and one that we strongly recommend without reservation for anyone looking for good architectural services."

"This company was efficient in their work and cleaned up nicely after themselves. I had a complete bathroom remodel after a water leak and they even did outside stair replacement with handrails to my front door. This company went above and beyond on their customer service. The only reason I gave them a 4.5 because I never knew their intended work schedule and was given a 3 day window with them leaving at noon without telling me if they were coming back after lunch. I didn't realize they were letting the tile set and the grout dry. I would have just liked the heads up for that, otherwise their craftmanship was spot on and their tile work was fantastic in the bathroom. Outside they had to do concrete and post work and those are level, Exceptional job well done for both crews."

I have dealt with a few structural engineers, but I ONLY used Eli services, as I could not quite rely on the other folks as well as I can on Eli.
