"Thank you [Member Name Removed]! We appreciate the kind words and are happy we provided such good service!"
An estimator came to my 1929-built building to take a look and bid on the removal of the kitchen flooring on 12/10/2015. He was very helpful, walked through the whole place and offered some suggestions of where asbestos might be lurking. I decided to treat the multiple stacked layers of linoleum and vinyl floor as if it were asbestos-containing and he wrote me up an estimate. He also left me with bags and directions for any testing that I wanted to do elsewhere in the space.
Prior to job day I removed cabinets and other floor-sitting items from the kitchen. They arrived on 1/5/2016, setting up a containment zone in the kitchen and abated the flooring within about 3-4 hours. After final tests to ensure that the environment was clear of asbestos fiber they ended the job, having removed all waste materials from site.
We are very pleased with their efficiency, knowledge, price of work, and quality. They made it quick and easy to safely continue renovating our space.
Tony came out to bid the job, and was pretty prompt for the appointment and turned the quote quickly. However, after we agreed on a price and the down payment was provided, there were delays in starting the job, and the responsiveness to my inquiry calls was less than impressive. I will say that when we did get the work started, his crew was prompt and professional. They were good about sealing off the work area, and they maintained a level of cleanliness over the 3 days it took them to complete the work. They did complete the job a day earlier than originally anticipated, so I was pleased about that. When they were done, the attic space was clean and vermiculite free.
Overall, it was an acceptable job for a reasonable price. The AEC project manager was not present at the site when the workers arrived so I had to delay the start of my work day in order to to explain the scope of work and show them around the house. Their project manager arrived within an hour, but I'd already lost the time getting them started.
AEC was recommended by the heating contractor, and both project managers met at our house to discuss the job a few weeks in advance. Coordination can be challenging on even a small residential job, and some problems arose with this one. Specifically, I observed a 'scope of work' condition that might not have been fully explained to the AEC project manager by the heating contractor, and was consequently not communicated at all to the AEC workers on site. I contacted both the AEC project manager and the heating contractor to request that they discuss the scope with each other and relay instructions to the AEC workers on site. My intervention saved us a few hundred dollars and improved the overall job, but it also took more time away from my work day.
It turned out fine in the end, but the process could have been smoother.
Affordable Environmental's bid on my job was a full 1/3rd lower than another large asbestos removal company on Angie's List. The crew showed up on time every day for 5 straight days. It was a crew of 3 guys most of the time, but the last couple of days, several other team showed up to help get the job done on time.
When all was said and done, my attic was immaculate; clean, wiped down, and in perfect order for the electrician crew showing up the following day. Here's to hoping I never need another abatement crew, but if I do, I'll definitely try Affordable Environmental again.
