"Last weekend had someone pry our side door open to our exterior garage and the ADT door sensor picked it up immediately. The alarm siren was loud and scared the person off. Someone from the response center called within 30 seconds. We’re fortunate that the security system did what it is supposed to. Feels like we made the right call going with an ADT security system."

"Excellent.  The conversion from a bi-fold to a "real" door makes the room look much more finished.
Jack and Ethan's excellent framing also fixed an uneven door fit (due to slightly crooked home construction).

"Delivery was delayed due to credit inquiry. After the concern was raised, shipment was rushed to us. Self installation didn't go as easy. Issue was resolved over the phone. The glass break sensor was a bit sensitive to loud noise such as cabinet door closing and door sensor repeatedly falls off and had to be reattached. Notification of alarm activation was fast and made to the right contact numbers. This prevented false alarm calls to the police."

"The job went very smoothly. The tech ran a bit late, but he called to say so. He installed a keypad by the front door and assessed the house for security. He suggested, since there are several casement windows in the living room and adjoining dining room that a breaking glass sensor would work better and be more cost-effective than alarming all the windows. He did alarm a door that the previous company (inherited when we bought the house twenty-three years ago) had not considered significant. I feel safer with the current sensor choices than the ones I had before.
He took the time to make sure I knew how to use the system, so I am very pleased with the service. My one caveat: I was told that the motion sensor would not register my smaller pets (two cats) because they weigh under forty pounds. They must have set off the sensor, though, because the police responded. The system certainly alerts the authorities, but that motion sensor is very sensitive!

"I would highly recommend going through Freedom Systems for all of your security needs.  Jimmie came out and gave me a quote for a new security system and a high def camera system, he really knows his stuff.  We decided to forgo the camera system since we were able to integrate a camera into the security system.  Even though they were busy and short one installer, they went above and beyond to get our security system installed within a week.  The installers were quick, efficient and didn't leave a mess. There was an equipment malfunction, but they came back out next day to replace the part.  I am extremely happy with the whole experience.

"That's the name I am vaguely familiar with; it's a home security company that is license to ADT franchise or dealer if I am correct.  They were very good.  They were prompt; they were quality.  The individuals move their business.  They were very timely and it was a good experience."

"Electrician Brian Newton arrived on time on Thursday, August 1st to do the walk through and provide an estimate.  His paperwork only stated that he was there to estimate the burned out exhaust fan, but I explained that I had called in for three things: exhaust fan. new ballasts in the kitchen, and replacing the broken exhaust fan.  He went over all these request with me.  I also advised that I was going to be putting together a to do list of things I wanted to update.  At that time Brian did check the wired smoke detector and advised that it was very old and not working.  We discussed the upgrade to one that was also a carbon monoxide detector and that the carbon monoxide detector was now code.  Definitely something a home inspector would be looking at if I were to sell my condo.
When the walk through was completed I told Brian that when I scheduled the estimate the scheduler had offered to secure a schedule spot for me for the work to actually be done on Monday, August 5th and I had taken a day off work.  Brian excused himself and went outside to call the office.  When he returned he advised that the appointment had not actually been scheduled, but as I had taken the day off work he got them to reschedule some other estimating appointments he had and would be back to do the work himself.  In all fairness to the scheduler, it may be that I misunderstood her offer, but I don't beleive that is the case. As a person who schedules installations at my own job I know that sometimes there are glitches.   At any rate Brian resolved the issue and arrived on time Monday to do the work.
Brian did everything on the list in good order.  Our only problem was that one of the flourescent bulbs was broken in the wrapping.  Brian went above and beyond to try to find a fourth "warm" bulb, going to both Lowes and Home Depot, but was unable to find the correct type.  He did bring back four "bright" bulbs and tried combining them, some warm some bright.  Unfortunately, the combination of bulbs did not work - it just made part of the lens over the fixtures look dirty.  We ended up using the bright with Brian telling me that if I was not happy with the bright bulbs he would bring another warm bulb over.  He also left the other 3 warm bulbs with me so I can replace it at any time.
All my questions about other electrical work I was looking to do in the future were answered in a professional manner with no pressure to start the projects until I was ready.  We discussed two outlets near sinks that would need GFI's installed both as a safety feature now and a code issue should I decide to sell.
The estimate I was given was firm and there were no additional changes or charges.
This orgnainization is professional and does excellent follow through on updating clients on the status of arrivals etc.
I would strongly recommend them.

"We were considering installing a new security system for our home. After talking with our daughter, she recommended that we contact Homestar Security. She and her husband had a system installed by them and were very happy with their system and the fact that they were a local ADT authorized dealer. Michael came to our home to discuss with my husband and I the possibility of putting in a new security system. We were never under pressure to buy.  Michael's information and advise enabled us to know what system worked best for our home. Technician Brent installed our system a couple days latter. Brent's installation was a very clean, professional job. He was also very informative about how our system worked. . Michael followed up with us to ensure that we were taken care of and all our questions were answered. Whether we talked with Michael, dealer owner, Brent, technician  or Trish, customer service, we found them to be friendly, informative and professional. We recommend HomeStar Security for all your security needs.

"Protect America Alarm Systems are wireless home security systems that are so advanced and yet uncomplicated that the consumer can install all components to the system themselves. Tech support is provided which makes installation easy and very user friendly. The system is monitored and response to alarm signal is quick and nearly immediate. ( I accidentally set it off a couple times having forgotten that it was set when we left home). I've had a couple different systems in my homes over the years which were "professionally" installed; one was wired the other wireless. I install this myself with the help of tech support, I'm 65years old in good health but of course not as agile as I was a few years ago, but this system was a piece of cake for me to install. Every access to my home has been covered as well as some interior sensors. All of which have functioned flawlessly from day one!

Security Doors questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on system type, labor rates, and additional features like smart integration or professional monitoring.

Smart deadbolts are a worthwhile investment for homeowners seeking more convenience, flexibility, and advanced features than a traditional deadbolt can provide. While a strong conventional deadbolt offers sufficient security for most, smart deadbolts provide significant upgrades.

Key benefits include keyless entry via smartphone, keypads, or biometric sensors, and the ability to lock or unlock your door remotely. You can also manage access for guests by creating temporary codes, eliminating the need for physical keys and the risk of them being lost or duplicated. Many models integrate with smart home systems and offer features like automatic locking, entry-exit monitoring, and tamper alerts with encryption for enhanced security.

However, there are downsides to consider. Smart deadbolts are more expensive than their traditional counterparts and rely on batteries and wireless networks to function. This dependency introduces potential vulnerabilities, such as hacking by skilled intruders and privacy concerns. Installation can also be more complex. Despite these drawbacks, the added layer of convenience and protection makes them a compelling option for many.

Yes, you can install a home security system in an old house. In fact, you can install a security system in any home. Some wiring may need to be added, but most home security systems do not require a lot of additional wiring. Wireless security systems can easily be installed with minimal additional wiring, if any at all. Most wireless security systems can be monitored and controlled from your smartphone, and the cameras and sensors operate on batteries.

Security cameras do not need wiring if they are wireless, meaning they are battery-operated and can connect through Wi-Fi. You’ll need to change the batteries on a wireless camera and ensure you have a steady connection to Wi-Fi for video storage. If you have a wired security camera, you’ll need to plug it into an outlet or other power source and a DVR device.

Home automation systems offer a wide range of automation products and services. Some of the most popular options include:

  • Cameras: $35–$350

  • Door and window sensors: $20–$100

  • Doorbells: $100–$350

  • Locks: $150–$400

  • Garage door openers: $150–$500

  • Lighting: $20–$100

  • Speakers: $30–$300

  • Outlets and plugs: $20–$100

  • Thermostats: $150–$300

  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors: $50–$150

  • Smart home hubs: $200–$900

  • Blinds: $50–$75

  • Appliances: $50–$3,000

  • Vacuums: $200–$1,200

  • Lawn systems: $80–$300

  • Wi-Fi and Mesh systems: $200–$500

  • Water monitoring: $100–$1,000
