"North Star did great work. Scheduling was the only problem, because we had to wait until one of his longer projects finished ahead of time, so that he could squeeze us in at the end of the work week. It took a while for that to happen, but the job wasn't urgent, so it was fine to wait. Now the garage roof is better than ever--no leaks."

"Excellent communication and customer service. Levi even cleaned my ceiling fan while he was up checking on the newly installed skylights, which I felt went above and beyond! He made sure we were well informed on how to program the automatic blinds in our skylights. I felt he was very professional, uses quality material and definitely doe not oversell! He and his crewman also replaced some pipe flashing and added a couple power mast boots which were completed promptly and cleanly. We will be using their services again to replace our larger skylight. I recommend texting as the best way to communicate."

"I was very impressed with Simon from ACR. He showed up when he said he would and gave me a quote on repairing my skylights. The quote was very reasonable and he was able to make the repairs that very same day."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, solar tubes work during the winter as long as it’s light outside and they aren’t covered by snow. Sun tunnels are made to work year-round to bring in natural light, and some people find them even more beneficial during the winter. With less daylight outside, it can be even more important to bring brightness into homes to reduce electricity costs.

Yes, flat roofs can make use of a skylight or window to allow natural light into the home. When finding the best skylight installer, it’s important to pick a professional with experience working with a flat roof. The installer must pick the right type of window design to match the slight slope of the roof.

Yes, if you have ventilated skylights, you can install insect screens on them. Insect screens for skylights cost $10 to $50 each, depending on their size and quality. Most pros highly recommend insect screens for ventilated skylights because they keep pests outside of your home while allowing fresh air inside.

Yes, you can replace a skylight without changing the entire roof—if the roof is in good shape. First, you need to make sure the roof around the skylight is intact and free of damage. Quality installation is crucial to prevent leaks, including replacing the flashing, which seals the skylight to the roof. While replacing the skylight alone is doable, it can make sense to replace both at once to streamline the work, coordinate the warranties, and reduce the risk of future leaks. If you’re unsure, reach out to a professional for help in deciding the best approach.

A skylight's ability to withstand hail depends on factors like material quality and thickness. Impact-resistant options, such as tempered or laminated glass, fare better against hail compared to standard glass. Proper installation and regular maintenance also contribute to their resilience. While smaller hailstones may not pose a significant threat, larger ones can cause damage. Consider skylight protection methods like covers or screens in hail-prone areas to enhance durability and minimize potential harm.
