I initially contacted MS Railing through Angie's List and Serge was quick to respond. Because Serge needed more details we continued to communicate through texting so I could send him pics of the studs in the wall so he would know it would hold the heavy glass door. I was told (by several glass companies) that they wouldn't come out to measure until the tile was installed. However, Serge did give me a rough estm via text just so we'd have an idea of the cost. As soon as the tile was installed I texted Serge about coming out to measure to give us a solid quote. He came out the very next day and was punctual! We also got other estm for the glass from companies off of AL as well. What set MS Railing apart from the rest was the respect that Serge gave by taking off his shoes when he came into our house, MS Railing also had the lowest price and the quickest install turn around time (a week and a couple of days) compared to the other estms we received (3 weeks). The actual estm Serge gave us before he left was even lower than his rough estm he sent me via text! Since we were still waiting on a company to send us their quote, just to make sure, so we waited to let Serge know we wanted to go with his company to install the glass. When we finally got the other quote it was much higher so, I texted Serge to let him know (that was on a Fri evening), I was concerned maybe we should've waited until Mon morning to tell him. However, he did respond right away even though it was after hours. That following Tues I texted Serge to see about our order. I didn't need to worry b/c Serge had remembered and in fact on Weds he texted me to say the glass was ready!! They also had available an apt for 10 am apt spot the next day or I'd have to wait until the following Mon. I chose the 10 am appt.! The guys showed up on time, installed the glass within the hour and cleaned up! We have not used the shower yet as we are still adding some new fixtures and all to the bathroom but we love the look of the doors! We did pay extra for the glass stain protection that was applied to the glass before it was installed. The protection last 5 yrs and the price that was quoted was well below the other companies and worth the extra cost to us. A clear "plastic" strip was attached to the bottom of the shower door to help keep any water from coming out. I was told we could take it off but you can't really even see it plus it's nice to have the extra protection against any potential water that may get splashed onto the door and out onto the floor. Again we are super happy with the service that MS Railing provided and the glass looks wonderful!

"Todd is really easy to work with. He worked around our schedule. While doing the work our house stayed very clean and each time we came home it was essentially as if they were never there. The tile guy took 12 x 12 marble tile and cut, honed, and polished it into our specified dimensions. Todd also was able to creatively work around a few of our house's quirks. He does not have a plumber that he works with so we did have to get our own plumber which ended up costing us quite a bit. Overall, a painless kitchen redo for a reasonable price and fantastic results!"

"I started the project with Phil Rowe sales dept and found him to be impossible to deal with.  He would not clearly state the design options where to view them etc and his wording in the contract was extremely vague.  Kenny Anderson the owner took over dealing with me after wasting months of time.  This was my first bathroom remodel but NOT my first general remodel project.  The Andersons whole family are very nice people but they don't communicate well with each other or the clients.  It took countless phone calls and emails to accomplish this job.  Their workers were good, fairly professional..though it seemed like they relied on telepahy at times to communicate with each other.. I felt that I had to interface between them all to be sure things went smoothly.  They have worked together for a long time apparantly..  Workers do good work but they are not used to custom design...they want to do things their way and have very set ideas.  They are not so good at explaining things to clients either.  There was a construction schedule but it was not always followed yet the project was finished according to terms 2 weeks.  It irritated me that Kenny Anderson the owner did not actually visit the job site at all!  He had the contracter license and bonds. ( I had no idea if his subs did) and  I expected him to come at least once a day to view the progress!    I think that this company is used to dealing with a different type of client...a "just get her done" type with no questions.  They acted like I was a difficult consumer which I didn't appreciate."

"I was worked into a Friday schedule between 1:00pm and 3:00pm. I was informed in the morning that the customer before me (in Bellevue, WA) was running late and my time may move out 1 - 2 hours. I was not thrilled but this happens.Thirty minutes later I received a call that the installer was leaving the late customers location and was proceeding to my location and will replace my windshield first (in Snohomish, WA) . They traveled the 30+ miles to me to get this done in a quick, efficient and first class way. A great job communication and customer satisfaction. I will recommend them from this point forward.

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.

Heavy glass tends to be more expensive than thin glass because it is stronger and more durable. In most cases, ¼-inch-thick glass is ideal for mirrors, and ⅛-inch-thick glass is ideal for residential windows. Heavier glass isn’t always necessary, and can be more challenging to hang or install. Work with a local window installation pro for replacement or new construction windows.

Glass walls are more expensive overall than their brick or drywall counterparts. However, if you need walls for a building with more than two or three stories, glass walls are the more budget-friendly option.

Glass block installation can be relatively expensive due to the range of material costs and the labor time to assemble this type of specialty window. The process proceeds slowly as the glass does not absorb moisture from mortar and silicone caulk takes longer to harden, leaving spacers to hold up the structure until the caulk or mortar begins to cure. Plus, if your current windows have structural issues or damage, you’ll need to repair them before beginning the project, increasing your bottom line.

Luckily, glass block windows need minimal maintenance. Other than regular cleaning, the only maintenance involved in having a glass block window is inspecting for cracks every year and applying sealer to the mortar joints if the blocks are set in masonry mortar. Glass block windows hold up well against wind and moisture better than traditional windows and are not prone to rot.
