While tubs are fairly sturdy, you may notice cracks or holes. This kind of damage can happen from someone accidentally dropping something heavy into the tub. Some bathtub liners come with a wall or shower surround to refurbish the area above the bathtub.

Bathtubs chip for a number of reasons. The primary cause is simply an accumulation of accidents or direct impact from objects over time. Heavy items will do this, like an iron, but so will lighter objects, like shampoo bottles, especially if you drop them from high enough.

Also, fiberglass tubs have thinner edges and are cool to the touch. Acrylic, on the other hand, is either room temperature or warm to the touch.
