Customers say: Quality work

"arrived 30 min. after I called. got the job done. didn,t nickle and dime me with up charges. I will use them again if I need plumbing. I had a service call with one of the frequent media advertised plumbing companies. That company messed up the appointment I thought I made the night before and wound up waiting 7 -8 hours for them to show up. The repair wound up being the equivalent of replacing a washer on an outside hose bib. 10 min of actual work cost over $400. Lions had to pull the toilet to clear the main drain clog. The main cleanout was under a crawlspace and there was not enough room to get equipment in. When he went outside to try to find a space to install an outside cleanout, we found one buried under a foot of topsoil. he dug the area out and extended the pipe upwards and put a cover on it that was marked Sewer. "Jerry was very enjoyable and professional in replacing a bent lead toilet connection which had leaked at the toilet. He replaced the old lead connection to the cast iron sewer pipe with modern ABS pipe and installed a flange to attach the new toilet to when the floor is completed."

"The arriving technician was cordial in dealing with me. In this period of the pandemic, he observed health protocols diligently. However, he was not as knowledgeable as he should have been regarding the subject of toilets. Cutting to the short of it, after charging me the $230 for the service call of using the 6-foot toilet snake and not addressing the performance of the toilet, I found the problem inside the reservoir tank, which he had examined. He seemed more intent on selling me a new toilet installation than he did at providing a fix."

Small jobs welcome

"I was going to try to do this myself but there were too many challenges. Scott had no problem figuring out what needed to be done and knew how to do it. He was professional and courteous and I am glad he was the one I called. I highly recommend Sprague plumbing."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Many homeowners stress about cleaning before an emergency plumber arrives, but you’re far better off doing the following while you wait for your plumber to get to your home:

  • Shut the water off at your water main if you have a leak or a burst pipe

  • Avoid using any water fixtures in your home, including appliances

  • Clear a path to the problem area so that it’s easily accessible

  • Consider shutting your breaker if you’re concerned that the leak may affect your electrical system

Brown stains in your toilet bowl are most likely limescale. Limescale happens from lime being left behind from hard water evaporating. Once dried out, the minerals also catch dirt and bacteria which eventually accumulate into the brown or blackish stain you see in your toilet. To remove thick and hard limescale from your toilet, use a mixture of vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda, and scrub with a metal scrubbing brush.

Most codes require 15 inches on either side of the toilet's centerline (from the wall or vanity) and at least 21 to 24 inches between the toilet and the wall in front of it. These codes ensure that your toilet is easy to use and access, even in small bathrooms. Check your local building codes for the exact measurements required.

The toilet should rest 10, 12, or 14 inches from the back wall. As for other clearances, 15 inches is the minimum distance from the flange to any side wall or nearby fixture, including the shower, tub, and sink. Modern codes also require at least 24 inches of clear space in front of the toilet.

The cost of making a bathroom accessible can be $3,000 to $25,000, but you could spend as much as $50,000 building a brand-new ADA-compliant bathroom. Some bathroom accessibility upgrades to consider include:

  • Installing grab bars: $100–$500

  • Lowering cabinets and vanities: $1,200–$2,500

  • Installing modified doors: $700–$1,500

  • Installing a modified toilet: $400–$1,000

  • Installing an accessible sink and faucet: $100–$1,000

  • Adding a walk-in tub: $1,100–$17,000

  • Converting a bathtub into a walk-in tub: $350–$1,000

  • Installing a wheelchair-accessible shower: $2,000–$7,500

  • Installing a shower ramp: $16–$300
