"I am pleased to have picked Highlander Logging Inc. for my project. It was my first time contracting to trim my tree, removal of bushes and shrubs. Mike and Cody were timely from the bid appointment until the job was done. Both were patient and knowledgeable, and their quote appears to be fair compared to other bids I had. I would recommend them. I will use their services again if needed."

"Greg did a fantastic job for us. He ground up 4 tree stumps and even went above and beyond by grinding up a bed with huge blackberry nodules and ground cloth. We can now plant in this bed. He’s great to work with, pleasant and professional, prompt and a good communicator. I’d hire him again in a minute!"

"Great Job, was able to change day and show up for an earlier date to get a quote. We decided on a reasonable price for the work that day and started work two days later. They stated the work could take 2 days but they finished in one day and got it all done. We were very happy with the final product. We will do services with them again."

"I live in Lacey. I thought getting a bid to take out 4 trees from a company so far away would be more expensive. I was so wrong. I called 4 different companies to get estimates. Only one company called me back. I set an appointment for an estimate and they gave a 3 hour window of when they would be here. They missed the window by over an hour. That company wanted $2800 to take out 4 trees. I went to Angie's list, put in my info and got 3 calls the next day. When Harold from H&M called... he said he could be here in 30 minutes. He showed up a couple minutes early. His estimate was half of the other company $1400 total to remove the trees and clean everything up. While he was here he pruned a couple of other trees and took out some weed trees no extra charge. Even though he was coming from an hour away he was still 5 minutes early. I am going to have him come back in the winter to trim some huge trees in my front yard. I can't believe that these guys have such great prices and did such a great job."

"The communications with Robert and the service were awesome. He worked with me quite a bit and gave me an estimate. I feel that his estimate was fair based on the work to be done."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The average lifespan of an oak tree is 100 to 300 years, so long as it isn’t impacted by diseases like sudden oak death. Some species will last shorter or longer, depending on where you live.

If it’s your property, then you can plant a tree near power lines, but it’s not the best idea. Any vegetation that grows within 10 feet or so of power lines will fall under the responsibility of the utility company, and they may trim or remove it as necessary. If you do move forward with your plan, try to choose a smaller ornamental tree, plant it as far away from the power lines as you can, and keep it trimmed to avoid future problems.

Depending on the severity of the damage, a tree might continue healing for years after a split or a break. Saplings can usually bounce back in the spring in one or two seasons, but larger trees might take a few years to regain their former strength. If your tree is showing strong growth and is not dropping limbs, you can consider it healed after the first two seasons.

You need to remove all branches affected by Dutch elm disease. If your tree has several affected branches, you will probably need to remove the entire tree. First, consult a pro to be sure that you’ve correctly identified it as an elm tree. Make sure the tree is properly disposed of with a plastic covering or through debarking, chipping, or burning.

Aim to have your trees inspected and pruned in early spring. At this point in the year, tree service professionals can note where there is old growth from winter and cut that back to encourage new growth for the rest of the year. Pruning at the wrong time of the year could make your trees prone to diseases.
