Granite is porous, which means it has the potential to stain if you don’t clean up spills quickly, but the general durability and relatively low cost make it well worth the investment.

Countertop refinishing can extend the life of your countertops for an extra 5 to 10 years, as long as you maintain them properly. That includes regular cleaning, always using a chopping board, placing a hot pad or trivet under hot pans, and wiping up spills as soon as you notice them.

Never put a hot pan on epoxy countertops, as it may melt or show heat damage. Epoxy countertops can only handle temperatures of 150 to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, while pans regularly reach temperatures between 300 and 500 degrees Fahrenheit. If you have an epoxy countertop, always use a trivet or towel before setting down a hot pan.
