"John came out and looked at several issues, determined them to be cosmetic not structural and wrote a certified letter to that effect. We got great peace of mind from his visit."

"We bought an old home and needed a structural engineer to assess what condition the house was in so we knew what we could feasibly remodel. We were admittedly ignorant to the whole process. When Felipe came out for the inspection, he was professional, friendly, and happily answered our uninformed questions. We didn't know what to expect in the structural assessment report, but upon receiving the report, it was unquestionably worth the money. I am doing a bit of the remodeling myself and he has been an invaluable resource allowing me to ask questions as I progress through the remodel. I would recommend his services to others, and will certainly use his services again in the future."

"GS engineering, and Sim Singh in particular have been fantastic to work with. I am a general contractor and have had to hire a number of structural firms over time. Sim offers a very rare combination of a high level of skill in a highly technical field (specifically engineering) a high level of professionalism, and an overall pleasant personality/demeanor. As long as he has the time to take my calls, it is doubtful that I would ever call a different structural engineer than Sim."

"Mr. McCann came out to assess the water and carpenter ant damage to a wall and foundation sill plate of our home. He was able to quickly evaluate the problem area and provide the structural engineering report and repair task list we needed to get contractor bids on the reconstruction project. Highly recommended."

"Before buying I needed a specialist to look deeper into a potential issue, Greg was very knowledgable, friends and as it turns out just the guy for the job. He exposed all the issues and made my choice of not buying a house an easy one. Great to work with, has pest and structural qualification and was very reasonable. I'd highly recommend him and will be calling him again soon when I find another house."

"I am amending my previous review from poor to excellent. I was not pleased with the first job because the cement was too dry and had a "popcorn" consistency which I structurally unsound. Mapa came back to inspect and agreed and was probably due to weather conditions at the time that caused the dry concrete during transport. He said he would take it out and replace it which he did. That, to me, shows his integrity and professionalism. He has finished the second pour and the end result is excellent and will hire him again when I am ready to redo my driveway. He also offered to stain and seal the concrete free of charge but declined as I had planned to do that myself with a special acid stain mix. Mapa is from Tonga so anticipate a minor language barrier. He is a pleasant guy to work with and will make sure everything meets your expectations."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Before contacting a structural engineer in Issaquah, gather a recent property survey, topographic maps, and any available soil test results. Record the type and current state of your foundation, previous structural changes, and visible issues like settling or moisture intrusion. Note property boundaries, HOA restrictions, and any prior permits. Clearly define your project objectives, timeline, and highlight features such as steep grades or nearby wetlands that could impact design.

Helpful?

To protect your home in Issaquah, start spring with a detailed foundation inspection for cracks or shifting, and ensure all drainage paths are clear. In summer, schedule a structural assessment for seismic upgrades and check for pest damage. Fall is ideal for reviewing roof supports and sealing vulnerable joints before heavy rain. During winter, monitor attic spaces for snow accumulation and ice dam formation to prevent structural stress.

Helpful?

In Issaquah, steep slopes require tailored foundation designs and advanced retaining wall systems to prevent soil movement. Glacial soils can complicate load-bearing calculations, while frequent rainfall demands robust drainage solutions. Seismic activity in the area means earthquake-resistant construction is essential. Properties near wetlands or creeks face additional environmental restrictions, and homes in historic neighborhoods may encounter limitations on structural modifications, all of which increase project complexity.

Helpful?

When reviewing quotes in Issaquah, be cautious if proposals overlook hillside stability, drainage challenges, or seismic requirements. Vague descriptions of structural assessments, missing references for local projects, or unclear timelines can signal inexperience. Avoid professionals who rush your decision or provide incomplete documentation. Look for detailed, site-specific recommendations and transparent contracts that address Issaquah’s unique terrain, climate, and permitting considerations for peace of mind.

Helpful?

In Issaquah, use temporary barriers on sloped lots to prevent falls and keep children and pets away from excavation areas. Store hazardous materials in locked containers and maintain slip-resistant walkways, especially during wet weather. Schedule loud or disruptive work when children are out or pets can be relocated. Regularly review safety protocols with your contractor to ensure all family members remain protected throughout the project.
