John S. Apolis, P.E., President of C, offers over 30+ years of experience in Structural Engineering Design for almost every type of construction project. We have provided design many types of structures. Our design costs are often lower because as a smaller firm, we have lower overhead costs. In addition, our turn-around times often are faster, because of the way we organize our work schedule. We typically provide full structural design for additions and remodel projects for 100 or more satisfied architects and homeowners each year, as well as a similar number of smaller "one day" or even "two hour" projects. We try whenever possible to give you what you need, when you need it. No project is too large or too small. If you are looking for a structural design firm which will stand behind their work, and provide you with timely and cost-effective structural design for your remodel, look no further.

"Daren did not contact me in regard to his concerns. I will comment that I normally do not enter an attic because I usually can easily see how the roof is constructed, based on observations and experience. This is explained to Daren in the detailed site visit description I sent him prior. The charge was $450, which is the same that I always ask for, and was not $500. My evaluation conformed to that description. I regret that Daren was not happy, but my response is that I provided everything I promised prior to the visit. I would ask Daren, if he already knew what I would say, why retain me to come out and provide an evaluation? I am puzzled."
"Katie, I regret that you were not satisfied. I always attempt to provide an appropriate evaluation. In the description which I sent you prior to the visit, I specifically mention that I do not offer a whole house evaluation, but rather a look at specific items of your concern. So, I believe that you leading the inspection is appropriate - I want to address what concerns you. I do keep an eye out for other problems, and mention those if I see them. If you did not receive a report that you expected, I apologize. I don't recall being asked for one, and often I am told that no report is wanted. Perhaps I misunderstood you. Please be aware that I make several similar evaluations every week, but even so, I try to provide the information you need. Or, I may have forgotten, which does happen from time to time. If you still would like a report, not a problem, simply send me an email to remind me of your email address, so I can look up the visit. I'm not sure what you mean by casual, but yes, I am an easygoing man. Regarding the time spent, I will say that the cost of the evaluation is a flat fee, not an hourly rate, and has been set to make it possible for me and CSES to offer these assessments profitably. The fee is based on my extensive experience, expertise and knowledge, rather than the amount of time I spend. Further, saying I spent 20 minutes does not address the travel time and overhead for such an evaluation. I also point out that, counting overhead time and travel, I spent over two hours in total. Feel free to contact me if you would like to further discuss your evaluation, or get further information from me. Thank you."
