"Nathan was a joy to work with. He was very helpful with ideas to iinstall new outdoor light fixtures and gave us different options to replace older patio motion sensors which we immediately ordered. He offered to return and install them in a timely fashion. I will definitely recommend Harts Services to my neighbors and friends."

"Missed apt from 8-noon. I called them at noon. Showed up at 3pm. Not the right ladders for the listed height. Licensed electrician but $600 estimate for not even one hour to exchange a light fixture for another."

"The cliff notes: 80's kitchen, badly painted cabinets, tiny budget, no idea, nor energy, on how to finally dive in after living with it for the last 20 years. Usually I give friends and family design advice but knew I was way out of my depth with my own kitchen. Tanya came in with her fresh eye and gave me so many fantastic ideas that were budget friendly I would never have come up with on my own, and after her consultation not only do I feel like I have a clear path forward on what to do and how to get it done I'm excited about the project and can't wait to get started . Highly recommend!"

"Very please experience. He came out and diagnosed an electrical issue I was having with the outlets to the bathrooms. Replaced the GFI outlet and everything is now working. He was fast, professional and reasonably priced. I would definitely use this company again."

"A team of two electricians arrived on 24 August 2020 to investigate the electrical anomalies we were experiencing. They spent all day inspecting the circuit breaker panel and disconnecting multiple switches and outlets. By the end of the day, they thought they had resolved the problem, but when they reconnected everything, the symptoms returned. So, they decided to come back the next day to continue their investigation. On 25 August 2020, the lead electrician came back for a few minutes, to continue searching for the cause of the electrical problems, but was still unsuccessful in determining the source. He said he would come back tomorrow. On 26 August 2020, the two electricians returned and finally identified and corrected the cause of the electrical problems we were having. The lead electrician explained that the problems were caused by a loose grounding wire in the circuit breaker panel, which he had initially checked but did not notice. After they left, we realized that a three-way light circuit on the stairs and balcony was not working properly. This was not one of the original symptoms. So we asked the team to come back and correct this problem, which they had created. On 4 September 2020, the team came back and corrected the wiring problem with the three-way switches for the lights on the stairs and balcony. The owner of the company, to his credit, apologized for the fact that it had taken so long to identify the root cause of our electrical problem and only charged us for his cost, not the electricians' usual hourly rate. And, he did not charge us for the return visit to correct the problem with the three-way light switches on the stairs and balcony. Overall, the electricians were always courteous and professional, and kept us informed during their investigation and analysis of our problem. They were pleasant to work with. It was just unfortunate that the investigation and resolution took longer than any of us expected. I would not hesitate to call on them again in the future, if needed."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

No, you should not leave LED Christmas lights up all year. While the LED lights themselves are very durable, their wiring and casings can be as vulnerable as any Christmas lights. They’re subject to drying out, experiencing cold or sun damage that causes them to crack, and even damage caused by gnawing pests. (The same is true of incandescents.) If you want your lights to last the years that they’re rated for, bring them inside after Christmas is over.

Yes! As a matter of fact, there are many sensors that add motion to existing outdoor lights. These motion sensors attach to pre-existing flood lights and other outdoor lights without any fussy and potentially dangerous electrical work. Additionally, some flood lights and related fixtures ship with motion sensors built-in.

Yes, most services include testing the system after repairs. Confirm with your provider.

If you take home a pre-lit Christmas tree but want to spruce it up with blinking lights, don’t worry, there’s a simple solution. You can easily replace the light bulbs on the pre-lit tree with flashing bulbs. For a more subtle look, only replace some of the bulbs with flashing bulbs.

Testing tools, such as Christmas light testers, non-contact proximity electrical testers, and multimeters, all simplify the process of testing Christmas lights. However, without one or more of those tools, testing Christmas lights the old-fashioned way only works sometimes. Without testing tools, the simplest testing method is visual inspection, which may or may not yield positive results.
