"Antonio used a crew of only two people due to the coronavirus to replace our rather complicated roof system , but those two people did an outstanding job and did it in the time promised. The roof looks great, and they did a great job of cleaning up our property afterwards. We would highly recommend Wenatchee Eagle Roofing for their excellent and professional work."

"Elias Contruction provided a detailed estimate after inspecting the roof and making some qualified recommendations. The project required a few change orders that were not clarified in writing. I would recommend hiring Elias if you get changes in writing. They cleaned up pretty well although they missed a few things due to finishing in the dark. Overall satisfied with the job and cost was 60% of other bids due to sheathing adjustment."

"I have called numerous companies to give me a bid in repairing a leaking roof on my 40 x 60 pole barn with no success on them getting back to me in a timely manner until I called Empire Roof Coatings. I received a bid on applying a 10 or an 18-year sustainable roof coating and selected the 18-year coating. This company was very punctual on their show times to my residence to complete the job. I couldn't be happier with the end result on my roof. Three years after the roof was completed there was a miner leak that manifested during the winter. I called Empire Roof Coatings to inform them on the issue and they were at my house within a couple of days to fix the leak. When the repair was completed the owner of the company told me that he was not happy with the performance of the coating that was applied to my roof and wanted to schedule a date and time to re-accomplish the job with a better product at no cost to me. I could not be happier with their outstanding customer service and their determination on standing behind the quality of their work! I highly recommend this company for any of your roofing needs. From my experience on doing business with them, it is definitely satisfaction guaranteed! They have re-roofed two other homes I have and they both were flawless jobs!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Heated roofs are a preventative measure and don’t have an outsized effect on your home’s value, so there is no definitive answer to this question. If you diligently monitor your roof in colder months, ensuring there is never snow or ice buildup then no, maybe they aren’t worth it. However, who really watches their roof every day or goes out in freezing weather to rake the roof? For most people worried about roof damage in the winter, heated roofs are a good investment.

Yes, you should seal and cap an unused chimney to protect it from damage. Sealing the structure helps prevent moisture damage, which can lead to issues like cracks, spalling, efflorescence, and damaged mortar joints. Capping the chimney is also crucial to prevent blockages, damage from invasive critters, and downdrafts, while still allowing for proper air ventilation to manage moisture. For the best results, consult a chimney professional to select the right type of chimney or flue cap for your home. It's also wise to continue with annual chimney inspections to maintain the structure's integrity.

Whether a metal or shingle roof is better for you depends on your preferences. Standing seam metal roofs require little to no maintenance, but if you install a screw-down metal roof where the fasteners are exposed, the gaskets on the fasteners will dry rot and need to be replaced. Generally, screw-down metal roofs need to be re-screwed every 15 to 20 years.

Metal roofs are energy-efficient and have extended warranties, while asphalt shingles are less durable than most. They tend to lose color and get damaged over time, and absorb heat from the sun.

The cost to replace a roof typically ranges from $8,700 to $22,000, with a national average of around $9,200. The total cost depends on the size of your roof and whether you need a full replacement or can simply place new shingles over the old ones. A full replacement, which is necessary if the roof is several decades old or has multiple layers, is more expensive. This process involves tearing off the old roofing materials, inspecting and repairing the underlying structure, and then installing the new roof.

It’s possible to walk on a clay tile roof, but you run the risk of breaking or cracking the tiles if you’re not careful, so it’s best not to walk on it if you can avoid it. If you or a contractor needs roof access, be sure to distribute your weight evenly and step on the portions of tile that are also supported underneath, which depends on your tile design. Walking on any roofing material is inherently dangerous, so wear rubber-soled shoes and use safety equipment if you need to access your roof.
