The only thing that could have been better was the time it took from the initial order to the installation. I was expecting installation to begin before Thanksgiving and that was postponed to the second week in December. The owner said there were some supplier issues that caused the delay."

"We had a raccoon invasion in our crawl space. If you've never seen it you would not believe the damage Rocky and friends do. We got four estimates and went with Richard and Affordable Restoration. During his inspection Richard discovered some structural problems including cracked foundation, sunken footings, some rot, standing water and a gutter downspout issue. Work began on a Monday. The crew of Andres, Kevin, Cruz, and one who's name I did not get were terrific. Andres kept us updated on what they were doing every step of the way. The crew was very professional and made sure we were comfortable with the process. They were very careful to to protect our furnishings as they came in and out with debris and supplies. All the work was completed as expected and beyond. The job took four days. I would definitely hire Affordable Restoration again and recommend them to you."

Whatever I needed installed or planted was bought to me. He bought me the samples for the synthetic grass to look at and select also picked them up. He was very patient and was personally at my house to answer question and concerns. Very professional, not pushy at all, on time and always reachable by phone/txts/email. My backyard turned out exactly the way I wanted. It looks great. The worker who installed the synthetic grass was skilled and knew what he was doing. The crew that came to work was very professional as well. They listened to my suggestions and made sure I am satisfied with the work. They had good work etiquette and kept areas clean and free of clutter during the time period of their work. The price was reasonable. While patio installation requires some heavy equipment to excavate the area and compact the soil, you can learn how to do a DIY patio installation and potentially save money versus hiring a pro to do the work. You should be familiar with taking measurements and doing calculations to determine the right amount of materials, and you’ll need to be comfortable working with the necessary equipment.

Stepping stones should match an average human stride, so the general rule is to place them about 24 inches between stones. However, many designs put stones closer together. If you choose to plant in between them, leave at least 6 to 8 inches between stones to give plants room to grow.

About 6 inches between the edges of each stone in the sequence is common. Rather than sticking to 6 inches, some people measure the length of the entire path and adjust the space between stepping stones a couple of inches wider or narrower than 6 inches to make sure the entire path fits the length perfectly without having to cut a paver at either end. Other people prefer a design with a 24-inch distance from the center of one stone to the center of the next stone, which matches the stride of an average-sized person.

You should put gravel that is 3/4 to 1 inch under a concrete slab. However, depending on the project, local building codes may dictate the proper gravel size and shape. Some concrete slabs that do not hold significant weight may have a subbase of sand. Also, keep in mind that the subbase you choose will affect the cost of your concrete patio, walkway, or driveway.

The International Building Code requires individual step risers in a residential staircase to measure between 4 and 7-3/4 inches and the maximum rise of a staircase not to exceed 12 feet between landings. Individual step treads can’t be less than 10 inches deep.
