$7,000 plus tax. First off, Greg is a character and, as he will tell you, he talks too much, but it's kind of funny - don't get him started on Trump. That being said, Greg did a great job and a good price. We recently had our house lifted and needed new (8) front steps and short sidewalk to tie into existing steps from street. Steps were 5 feet in height, 5 feet in width, no small item. He additionally put in 22' of sidewalk and an entry pad for the side basement door. He is a VERY hard worker and earned every penny. Done Right Plumbing did a horrible cement job on a 5' X 6' section of our public sidewalk they had replaced a few months ago as part of a new sewer line ($20k) so Greg also hammered that out and replaced it as part of the job. Also, he stuck to his estimate. Notable idiosyncrasy - he is inclined to show up at 2pm daily and work until 9 pm unless you kick him out earlier but for us it was a small price to pay for a very satisfactory job. You can do a drive by if you want to check it out, 726 14th Ave. by Seattle University.

This job turned out great! Greg communicated very well throughout the entire process and made this job happen even when I was under the gun and in a time crunch. The finished product looked fabulous and really showed his 27 years of experience. This was a tough job and I got tired just watching how hard Greg worked. I will absolutely use Greg again when needing cement work.

We hired Greg to tear out and replace some cracked and broken sidewalks in front of our condo building. He was reasonably priced and did a great job. If you are looking for some giant construction company who will provide you with a power point presentation for a bid, and will knock the job out in a day you should probably look somewhere else. Greg's Concrete is one guy. He is honest and works incredibly hard. He was flexible and even came back on a Saturday to remove the forms. We were pleased with the process and the final product. If we need any other concrete work done we will not hesitate to hire Greg again.

This is a warning to everyone about this creep. I don’t have one good thing to say about Greg Goyen.
First off he didn’t stick to his original bid of $9,500 to pour two retaining walls. Just before he shows up for work he complains that the job is bigger than he anticipated and that now he suddenly want’s $2,500 extra (total of $12,000). I didn’t hesitate and agreed to the price increase and gave him a 50% deposit up front ($6,000) because I believed him when he said it was a lot of work, and he comes off as an honest guy (which he is not). He has his buddy do the excavating, which was not done correctly and blames me. He didn’t even show up to monitor things when the excavation was being done, so no one was checking if the elevations were correct. I’ve never done any excavating in my life, so I have no clue what needs to be done. I left this in his hands.
Anyway, he shows up for work and tells me he has never poured anything taller than a four foot retaining wall (my walls are over 7
feet in a couple of places!!). I was shocked. Then he tells me he never gets a permit or an inspection for any work that he does! I told him that everything MUST be done in accordance with a permit/inspection, and that I would not accept anything less. Turns out this guy had no idea who to call, or what to do to get an inspection!!! Are you kidding me?? He is in the business of construction and has never been through the permit/inspection process??
Anyway, he ends up getting the inspection done and pours the footings and realizes that it’s more work than he can handle, so packs up his tools and abandons the project with my $6,000 deposit check!!
I had to hire another outfit to finish the work, and it turns out that Greg Goyen installed all the rebar in the wrong locations, so the new contractor had to retrofit rebar in the footings to correct the problems.
I’ve hired an attorney and I’m in the process of gathering data/evidence for suing this creep. I just want everyone to know that they should stay away from this guy.
Response from Greg's Concrete Construction
"This is an outright lie. He said he's in the process of suing me, which isn't possible, since slavery is illegal. He liked to threaten and name call, much like a child. He said I installed the rebar incorrectly, which was impossible, since it was in a straight line and passed inspection. It couldn't be retrofitted, and wasn't. Since he was his own general contractor, I'd assumed he was calling for the inspection. Simple misunderstanding and not a big deal. Apparently he'd fired the previous GC, as well as many other contractors, taking his time and wasting loads of money on this house. He insisted he use my excavator, even though I'd told him he was busy and he should get his own. My guy finally came out and didn't do a very thorough job. I couldn't be there to supervise, but I took care of what he'd missed. I only blamed my excavator and took care of it. The bottom line is that I'd underestimated this job by quite a bit. These were driveway retaining walls up to 9 feet tall. This job should easily have been $20K, or more like $25K. Being mostly a flatwork guy, I hadn't anticipated the massively over engineered footings. He didn't pay what we had agreed to and became hostile. I basically did half the job (the footings) for $6000. The cost of materials was $4500 and I'd spent 3 weeks and well over 100 hours on the job. In other words, this was a huge mistake, and it's no wonder this guy has spent several years on this house, while going thru multiple contractors."

I gotta say, I really like this guy a whole bunch. He's just so nice and fair and honest, works very hard and knows what he's doing with concrete -- at least in the case of my job.
I have a 70-year old house with a basement that has been victim to home-owner abuses for about that long. The basement slab had so many layers of various self-leveling compounds and mastics and....
So my son and I removed the old mastics and then degreased the mastic remover and then broke up the self-leveling compounds which resulted in a big mess of uneven gouges. Then my son took a diamond grinder to put a surface on the whole thing.
After we got it all cleaned up, Greg came in and ran a lovely skim coat over the floor, filling in the gouges and giving a more even surface. We did not request leveling the floor; we just wanted a nice smooth surface which he gave us. Old slab is not like a newly poured concrete one and you have to expect imperfections. It's like the way old glass windows run; there's an amorphous naturalistic quality to the look and feel of it and we are good with that.
We were very pleased with the results.
My son then coated the floor with EpoxyShield Basement Floor coating in armor gray, ordered our own custom decorative chips mix and are very happy with the outcome. The EpoxyShield is breathable. The mistake we may have made was to then put an impermeable clear sealer on top which kinda cancels out the value of a breathable epoxy coating. A tip for anyone reading this: the Raeco skim coat is not as absorbent as slab and we used half the EpoxyShield recommended. Another note is that the sealer highlighted imperfections in the floor. Before we added the shine, you could hardly see the imperfections. Now they are apparent.

We needed to replace sidewalk and driveway within the city right-of-way before we could close our building permit. I contacted three local concrete companies and received quotes from two. Greg's Concrete was most competitive and he has good reviews. Once I got the proper permit from the city (I took care of all permits myself) Greg was able to come out within a week to remove the old concrete and put up forms. The next week, post form inspection, Greg came out and finished the pour. The finished job looks nice and passed inspection. Greg can seem pretty laid back, but I can say he is a hard worker and completed the job as required.

After several calls to other recommendations on Angie's list that either outpriced themselves or were not interesed in a small project, even had one of the people on Angies list tell me that he was just to busy. I finally got Greg. Got the estimate in a timely manner, the construction began on time, the cleanup left the yard looking as if the cement slab had always been there and it was all finished and done in time for the delivery of my spa

Greg was prompt and responsive at every level, from the initial phone call to completing the work. He kept to his bid and provided high quality work even though I have the impression that the bid ended up being a bit low based on the level of work that was required to complete the project.

Initial contact: Greg got back to me same day and was able to get me a bid next day, he was also patient enough as I went through the process of getting the original company in touch with him to work out details of replacement.

Work days: Greg was prompt and concise, explained what was wrong and how he would fix it, was very up front about color matching and worked with me to get the end result I was looking for and was able to keep a portion of the exisity patio in tact that was tied to the building.

I couldn't be happier with the quality and professionalism he provided.

From my initial call Greg responded the following day and scheduled a time to come over to give an estimate. The estimate was provided the same day and he started work the following week. The work included clearing 4/5 large rocks from the area, constructing the forms, pouring the concrete, finishing and cleaning up the site. The job was finished in 4 working days. Greg did a great job, the steps look great and he was very easy to work with. I would recommend Greg to anyone who needs this kind of work done. We chose Greg to do the work over two over bids because he came across as the most knowledgeable and professional. He was also very helpful in that he gave us some good pragmatic advice on a couple of our other projects.

I contacted Greg by email. He requested some photos. I took photos with my cell phone and sent to him via email. We discussed the project on the phone. After getting one other bid which came in more expensive, I decided to go with Greg because he was able to get to the project within a couple of days. He called me one morning and said he could come later that day. He did. The job took him around 2 hours.

Greg was a lot of fun to work with. He is definately a hard worker. He was overloaded with work, but he went out of his way to fit my little job in (which I apreciate). He's punctual and thoughful about getting back to you. He also doesn't play word games and tells it like it is. That might turn some people off, but it didn't bother me. In other words, you know where you stand with Greg. Anyway, Greg showed up when he said he would, got his gear out and bam! It was done. I'd recommend him to others.(Thanks Greg!)

Greg was very responsive and patiently dealt with our project delays. He worked hard and installed a great floor. He started pouring concrete around noon and worked until 6 pm. There were numerous tricky details he had to work out in order to meld the new concrete with the adjacent floor levels. Greg was not the cheapest bid we got but I liked his matter-of-fact approach - and he wasn't that much higher than the lowest bid. We ran into some cost over runs with extra needed work and found that Greg was very reasonable with these costs. I highly recommend Greg and will pass his name onto any of my friends and neighbors.

It went okay overall, he did a great job with two exceptions - the concrete color was very uneven, and he acted like he was very put out when I pointed it out (very nicely, I thought). He did come out to see if he could fix it, but it just wound up looking worse, like white paint had been spilled. He did tell me it would take many weeks to cure, but it still looks splotchy after a month (think white paint spilled over a buff colored wall and a light gray driveway). I'm glad he came out to try, since he says he doesn't guarantee his work, but I am disappointed that he did not respond to my 2nd email asking him for advice on how to fix it. This was a completely new driveway with completely new retaining walls...we thought it looked like a patch job, and he replied that it WAS a patch job, which I don't really understand. I would have been much happier knowing that I could not expect the color to be somewhat uniform so I could budget for someone to stain it. Take a look at his non-A reviews and see what his demeanor can be like...well, it was a lot like that for us too, unfortunately. The form and texture were great. So, a "C" overall.
Response from Greg's Concrete Construction
"Her pics here show the transition between the resurfaced wall and concrete drive soon after the pour, and before I came out to brush on a thin layer to attempt to have the color consistent. It's impossible to control the color, especially where a new concrete drive meets a newly resurfaced wall. The walls were not new concrete, but cleaned up and patched/resurfaced with layers of polymer compounds. The overlap will not be consistent, and depending on the products used, who knows what shade of white to gray will occur. I do indeed guarantee my work, as far as form and texture. I thought I was very open in communication here from the beginning, and didn’t think I acted put out at all. However, there are only so many different ways to explain that every time I come over to brush the concrete work, it’ll be a different shade, until things cure a bit (rain and water has a lot to do with it, as well as sun and shade). I admit, it’s frustrating to accept a lower counter bid, then do more work than the initial bid, and then get complaints for color. Next time I’m in the neighborhood, I’ll give the couple sq. ft. of the 1000 total a quick one over with a wire brush, which should do wonders to the surface effervescence there. Also, concrete can be stained, but I can’t guarantee that a customer will be happy with the results, so I’d rather not be the one applying the stain. Again, stain will have a different effect on the non-concrete, resurfaced areas."

Greg responded same day to the email I sent asking him some questions. He came by 2 days later to survey the project and provided a quote that night. He promptly provided references when I asked. Once I decided to hire Greg, he set up an appointment to go over the details of the project with me, explaining the process, answering my questions, and listened to my input as he settled on the plan. Greg started work the next day. I was impressed with the way he attacked the project and how attentive to detail he is. He definitely takes pride in his work. The 2 sets of steps and the patio turned out great!

Greg did a fantastic job on my steps, diveway and retaining walls. He made 3 -4 suggestions that have improved the function and look of the steps, all at no extra cost. Everything looks great now; the quality of the work is top-notch. Greg worked very hard, even putting in long days when he was sick with a bad cold! Can't say enough good things about this guy; professional, reliable and a true craftsman who really knows his stuff!

Greg was one of the best (there are only 2 others out of around 40) that I've worked with on a home improvement project over the years. He patiently waited, wasting his time, while my neighbor filed appeal after appeal to deny the driveway Greg had committed to pouring. He actually waited over a year and just as he had a start day, my permit from the City of Seattle, was put on hold again. Greg worked incredibly hard, finished the job in only a few days and couldn't have been nicer or more patient. In addition, when accidentally verbally told me an amount that was quite a bit less than what was only the original bid from over a year ago, he split the difference with me. He is patient, fair, and a hard worker.

Overall, it went okay. The slope is much better-now my car scrapes bottom 1 out of 10 times instead of every time. But if he had removed more of the driveway, it would've helped-the scrapes now occur at exactly where the old concrete meets new. His estimate also included rebuilding part of a small concrete wall, which was not necessary. That wall is badly patched now.

"THESE FOLKS LIVE ON A STEEP HILL, AND WHOEVER REPLACED THE DRIVE BEFORE LEFT A MASSIVE HUMP NEXT TO THE CITY SIDEWALK. I SENT A BID TO REPLACE THE FIRST THIRD OF THE SUPER THICK DRIVE TO THE CUT JOINT, GUESSING THAT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I WAS CLEAR ON THE MEASUREMENTS. TO HAVE GONE FURTHER WOULD REQUIRE A PUMP TRUCK AND A BIGGER BID. IN FACT, I WOULD HAVE HAD TO JUST REPLACE THE WHOLE THING. SHE HAD CALLED TO SCHEDULE BEFORE XMAS, BUT BECAUSE OF THE WINTER STORM THAT WE'D HAD ALL DECEMBER, IT WASN'T POSSIBLE TO POUR, SO SHE MENTIONED AFTER THE HOLIDAYS WOULD BE FINE. WE CAME OUT THE DAY AFTER NEW YEARS, SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS AS PUNCTUAL AS IT GETS. THERE WAS A CRUMMY OLD CURB THAT RAN ALONGSIDE THAT I FIGURED WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. SHE ASKED WHY, AND I REALIZED IT COULD STAY, BUT I DECIDED TO START RESURFACING THE MAJOR DIVETS, AND DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO FINISH. SHE ASKED ABOUT A DISCOUNT, AND I KNOCKED OFF $500 FOR LEAVING THE CURB WHICH I THOUGHT WAS A PRETTY GOOD DEAL. SHE SEEMED JUST AS HAPPY AS COULD BE WITH THE JOB, WITH NO COMPLAINTS. HEY PEOPLE LISTEN, THIS IS A ONE SHOT DEAL, AND I'M OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS, PREFERABLY BEFORE THE CONCRETE IS POURED. I FEEL I'M CLEAR WITH THE SCOPE OF THE WORK AS WELL AS THE PRICE. MY WEBSITE IS A GOOD RESOURCE FOR EDUCATING PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS, AND ALTHOUGH I'M NOT PERFECT, I FEEL LIKE I DO A PRETTY GOOD JOB WITH WHAT I HAVE TO WORK WITH FOR THE MONEY. I ALWAYS TELL PEOPLE TO GET AS MANY BIDS AS POSSIBLE AND GO WITH THE GUY YOU THINK WILL DO THE BEST JOB."

Greg did a great job replacing the sidewalk. There was an issue with a difficult neighbor that resulted in calling in the City arborist and sidewalk inspector. In the end, the city decided to have the sidewalk humped over tree roots and Greg was good in dealing with the extra requirements and suggested putting some steel in the concrete which the city agreed to. Greg did a great job in his finishing work. I would hire him again.

I had Greg out to do a bid on the project and while we were impressed with him, I did receive a lower bid from another person that I had found through "the list" and decided to use him. Unbeknownst to me, the person I hired actually was an employee of Greg's Concrete and while experienced in demolition, he was new to the concrete component. When the concrete was being poured another person came to the site and assisted him. I did not realize that this gentleman was Greg as it had been some time since the estimate and I had a few companies come out. At the time I did notice that Greg seemed frustrated, but our overall perception of the project was that it came out great. We were happy with the service we received from the contractor we hired. Greg contacted me after I reported on his company and explained the background story which we had not known at the time. Given this, it turns out that we did actually use Greg's Concrete, we just did not realize it as we paid the man we had hired. Knowing all of this, I have to say that I am impressed that Greg came through to assist the man we had hired, despite what he must have felt at the time. We appreciate that his help was the critical factor in the project's success and because of this we would not hesitate to recommend him to people.

"HERE'S AN INTERESTING REPORT. I HAD SENT THE HUSBAND A BID 7 MONTHS AGO FOR TWO DRIVES. A MONTH LATER, THE FELLOW THAT DOES MY DEMO WORK NEEDED HELP WITH A "SMALL POUR". I AGREED TO COME OUT AND TAKE A LOOK, AND TO MY SURPRISE, IT WAS THE SAME TWO DRIVEWAYS. HE HAD DECIDED TO GET WISE AND HIRE ME FOR THE MAIN COURSE (FINISHING THE CONCRETE) INSTEAD OF ME HIRING HIM TO DO THE MINOR BREAK OUT. MY BID WAS $1500 HIGHER, SINCE I WOULD HAVE ALSO REPLACED HER DRAIN, PIPES AND SOME OTHER STUFF. I RELUCTANTLY AGREED TO HELP HIM FOR REAL CHEAP, THOUGH I DID CHEW HIM OUT PRETTY GOOD. HE QUICKLY LEARNED I DON'T WORK THAT WAY, BUT HE'S STILL A HECK OF A DEMO MAN. SO WHAT A COINCIDENCE, HUH? EVEN THOUGH HE WAS IN THE WRONG CATEGORY ON ANGIE'S LIST FOR CONCRETE, HE GETS THE JOB AND HE GETS A'S, AND I GET THIS?! 7 MONTHS LATER? I JUST WANT THIS MEMBER TO KNOW THAT THEY DID GET MY PRODUCT, AND FOR A LOT LESS, SO GOOD FOR THEM."
