He found the tiling had been done on drywall not cement board and had swelled because of multiple cracks in the grout. He replaced the damaged dry board next to the tile, checked the plumbing to the tub and sealed it up again with meticulous plastering and smoothing, painting. He had to cut a new piece of tile from a 12 x 12, the only thing I had, to finish the job.
