Small jobs welcome

"Adam and his team did an amazing job on completing a backyard fence for my family. He was hardworking and detailed with the work. Kept me updated through every step of the way from the permit process, ordering materials and check-ins as the build was happening. Our fence is great! He also completed a custom railing and gate to attach to our existing deck. Will definitely be using we do it all again for future projects."

"Chris and his team did fantastic work at our new home. Attention to detail and great advice when we needed it. We hired them just to paint but we were so impressed with the work, we ended up using them for drywall, painting, and finishing work - all of which was done really professionally."

"They did get the project finished, eventually. The price was good and Jerry was courteous. However, the job dragged much much longer than I was initially told. Careless mistakes were made, some areas have rough finish, and they didn't clean up the mess after completing the project."

"I recently purchased a home which needed more than a little attention to bring it from 70's Ranch to Cottage Shabby Chic! I found NE Renovations on Angies List and called the owner, Richard Froais who promply responded to my request.

From the first meeting to our almost finished project, I have been impressed with him and his entire crew. I had a limited budget and even less time to complete the project and I can't believe what they accomplished in just a few weeks! From the remodeled kitchen to the brand new amazing marble bath and master bedroom and wallk-in closet, it has been a fantastic experience.

Special thanks to his amazing crew - Bill, Joe, Nick, Will, Jimmy and Pete!

I am looking forward to working with Richard to design and build a new deck this spring!

On time, on budget, done with a smile- I hate to see them go!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Yes, Ipe is more expensive than Trex decking—both in terms of materials and installation (plus, Ipe trees are endangered). On average, Ipe decking costs $10 to $25 per square foot, while Trex decking costs $5 to $12 per square foot. Because Ipe is harder to work with, the price of installation is higher, too. For Ipe decking, you’ll pay between $20 and $45 per square foot for labor. However, with Trex decking, the labor costs range from $8 to $22 per square foot.

Composite decking may never warp, or it may warp quickly. Several factors can influence the rate of warping, including the material's quality, installation method, and installation location. Generally speaking, high-quality materials that have been installed properly are drastically less prone to warping.

Decks require several inspections during and after the building process, but the specifics vary depending on where you live. Most areas mandate that decks comply with local building codes and safety regulations for the foundation, framing, and structure. Some pros recommend a footing inspection, which verifies the depth, width, and location of the various footings to ensure they offer enough foundational support.

No. In most cases, it’s not colder or freezing temperatures that affect decking materials but the amount of moisture that seeps into the materials as a result. For example, wood decking material is more likely to suffer from rot or decay when exposed to excess moisture from snow or ice. An extreme change in temperature can cause wood to expand or contract, but only if it’s not properly treated beforehand.

When installing deck boards, screws are generally a better option than nails. Screws offer superior holding strength over time, keeping the boards securely in place. In contrast, nails are more likely to pop out, which can create a tripping hazard. While you can use either, we recommend using 3-inch galvanized deck screws. To minimize the risk of cracking the wood, it's a good practice to drill small pilot holes before driving the screws into the deck joists.
