The countertop people took out the old sink but told me only on the day they installed that they wouldn't be able to replace my sink themselves. I didn't have a chance to have my regular plumber lined up ahead of time, and they weren't available, but they recommended Buds. These people were wonderful. They understood how flummoxed I was and how urgently I needed it done. Through not fault of their own (or mine) they had to come back 3 times before it was done -- each time, they did everything possible to work me in around their existing schedule to get it all done as quickly as possible. Both the plumber, Scott, and the woman on the other end of the phone were super nice and efficient. Price was less than I feared, and Scott had very good suggestions for optimizing my kitchen plumbing design. I would definitely recommend them, and expect to use them again. Peggy, in the office, helped me balance between the look we wanted and the price we could afford, and when we found a match, she snagged a piece and kept it ready for me so that they could install as soon as we were ready. I took a kitchen floor plan in to the office and we discussed possible options for how to support the part of the counter-top that would be used as an open space for kitchen stools. The in-store designer said that they would work with me to find the best way to support the counter-top, and agreed that I could use table legs, as I had planned, with possibly some additional support. I didn't realize until they installed it that this mean they would tell me I'd have to call a contractor to come in an install a support after they installed the counter-top. I thought they would come prepared to install any needed support themselves, which was why I had the discussion in the first place. Also, a few days before installation, I went to the web site to see if there was anything I needed to do ahead of time (empty or remove drawers, call a plumber, etc.). There was no information about the installation process online, so I just did what seemed logical (turns out not QUITE what was needed, but mostly ok). I did discuss with the person who came to the house for the initial measurements that I was planning to reuse the existing sink. He talked to me about what different sink options would mean in terms of the countertop installed -- whether it would require seams in the stone -- but neglected to tell me that I would need to hire a plumber to reinstall the sink. Apparently they can remove the sink, but not reinstall it. The first I knew that I would have to call the plumber was when they asked me; "When is the plumber coming?" They did not have a plumber working with them or recommend a plumber, just told me that I would need to call someone. So, instead of having a plumber all lined up to make the installation go smoothly, I ended up paying for an emergency plumbing visit that afternoon, since I was blindsided by the need for one. But, other than the communication glitches, the installation went well and it does look very nice. Karl showed up on time and was nice and professional. He found no plumbing issues and informed me that the water damage was most likely coming from the seal around the tub and not the pipes. I'm going to call them when I'm ready to renovate the bathroom completely.

"This company is fantastic. They went above and beyond what was required for a small project that I didn't have the time to do myself. It's so difficult to find good people to do these jobs, so I was really grateful for the fast, reliable, and high quality service. I would hire them again in a heart beat. They got right back to me when I initially made the request for service, and even though they said they were busy, they went out of their way to accommodate my request in a short span of time. They also communicated consistently and reliably when I messaged them about the project. This company gets my highest endorsement."

"I strongly caution anyone considering doing business with this company. I gave them a deposit of $4,428.65, and when I canceled a week later they kept almost $900 of it even though my service was not for another 6 weeks. You do sign a very simple, clearly stated document that says: should you cancel beyond three business days, you understand your deposit is non-refundable. Northern Basements may choose to refund depending on cancellation circumstances I fully acknowledge that I canceled a few days outside that window, but I hoped an honest company that cares about customers and referrals would choose to provide a full refund. I am a sucker for hoping that. They chose to risk my impression, referral, and review for $885.53. If nothing else comes out of this, I hope everyone reading at least goes in knowing that this statement on their contract is a real threat and your deposit is a hostage. Even Air b and bs offer full refunds on deposits within just a few days of their arrival date. 3 days to cancel with service not scheduled for 6 weeks out, Come on man. No materials were used. No service workers time was taken. The manager justified the 20% withholding as credit card fees, restocking fees, time and resources for the estimate, and administrative fees. I wholly accepted responsibility for the credit card fees and time of Paul, the gentleman who performed the assessment, and I offered to settle at 10%. I still believe any reputable company would have provided a full refund at this point in a project, or at most deduct the credit card fees because nothing more went into this beyond what would have normally been a free estimate. The further arguments the manager made for the additional fees were the scheduling of their team and the allocation of materials for my project. Complete nonsense, especially when the project was not set for 6 weeks away. Because they had my deposit hostage, they had control over how much they decided they wanted to keep, it was completely arbitrary, and they kept almost $900 of my money without providing anything. If they wanted to cover their credit card transaction fees, fine, at most 6%, but the rest is absolute robbery. The only solace I can find in this loss of almost $900 now is that I did not spend another $13,000 with them. I tried to call Paul after speaking with the manager to ask if he could do me a favor and try to reason with the manager on my behalf because he seemed nice enough. No answer. No callback. I will never seek out their services again and I will actively discourage others from doing so but, based on my experience, I expect they do not care."

FAQs for plumbing handyman service projects in Brattleboro, VT
The average cost to hire a handyman ranges from about $40 to $140 per hour. Average project cost ranges between $180 and $700, but the cost per hour and per project depends heavily on the type, size, and complexity of the project. The pro’s experience level and your location also factor into how much a handyman charges per hour or per project. You can also expect to pay higher rates or additional fees for emergency services, or around periods of high customer demand, like holidays.
Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Do you have any before and after photos of your work?
How long have you been doing this kind of work?
Do you clean up and dispose of waste when the job is finished?
Yes, you should hire a handyman who’s licensed, certified, and insured, if possible. States have different requirements for handyman licensing, registration, and certifications. If licensing is required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed handyman with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local handymen guidelines.
The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350.
