Small jobs welcome

"Angie's List turned up Robin's Cleaning Service as a possible contractor for carpet cleaning. We went with her since she's independent and relatively local (Gretna). She came today, worked hard for over two hours to clean our Master BR and closet, lower staircase and roughly 1/4 of the lower living area, and did a lovely, attentive and thorough job for $225. Very pleasant--does carpets and other cleaning, painting, landscaping, mowing and pressure washing between morning and evening school bus driving for Gretna public schools (all three levels). Just a really sweet lady whom we enjoyed getting to know. If you have odd jobs, give her a chance. Robin Hall, 434-728-0529, is highly recommended! It takes 24 to 72 hours for water to evaporate out of the carpet if you use a wet vac and towels to soak up the majority of the moisture and then run blower fans and dehumidifiers to speed up the evaporation process. The total length of time for the water to evaporate out of the carpet depends on how wet the carpet is, the type of carpet, and the thickness of the carpet.

No, you should never vacuum or sweep up mouse or rat droppings, as doing so can release harmful particles into the air and increase your risk of disease exposure. Instead, wear gloves and a mask, spray the droppings with a disinfectant spray, let it soak for a few minutes, and then carefully wipe them up with paper towels. Afterward, disinfect the area thoroughly and immediately wash your hands when you’re done.

No, you cannot steam-clean a silk rug. While steamers are a staple for cleaning area rugs, specifically oriental, the same doesn’t apply to silk rugs. The heat from a steamer can seriously damage its fibers. And since you probably don’t want to replace your stunning rug, it’s best to stay safe and keep steamers away from it.

While you might get away with once-monthly vacuuming in rooms you hardly use, it’s not ideal in other parts of your home. Your living spaces will look untidy, and leaving all that dirt lying around is not the most hygienic. Plus, the longer abrasive debris sits on your surfaces, the more chance of scratches or damage to carpet fibers.

Yes. A good mixture to condition your leather is made from one tablespoon of natural baby soap, a splash of vinegar, and 2 cups of warm water. Mix these ingredients in a bowl and use a microfiber cloth to rub it into the leather in small circles.

You can apply the same technique with a mixture of one part vinegar and two parts linseed oil. Once you’ve applied this to leather with a cloth, let it sit for 10 minutes before buffing with a small cloth.
